A Very Interesting Rumor About BCG...

Featured Replies

This is the most stupid thing I have seen on here in years.

Why would OK ST want a coach who can't beat Gardner-Webb.

My thoughts exactly!

Factual mistake from the above article.

"Seems more suited for Fort Worth Stockyards than Churchill Downs"

Does BCG coach UofL now?

Here is my rub with some of this.

Was Pitino a cultural fit for Kentucky? Absolutely not...city slicker, northeastern roots coming to Kentucky.

And by the way he was CM Newton's third choice, behind Lute Olson and PJ Carlisemo.

Kentucky is not Texas, but the culture I would say is much closer to southern than northeastern, and he was the second choice, not third choice for Barnhart.

Some have wondered about Barnes and Wright, but neither was offered the job...it was Donovan's to turn down and then the next step was BCG primarily based on Barnhart's relationship with the A&M AD.

Two hour practices on gameday are another inaccuracy.

And by the way he was CM Newton's third choice, behind Lute Olson and PJ Carlisemo.

Actually the way that I rmember it was Olsen was the #1 choice then I think (then became obvious that Olsen was interviewing with U.K. to "up" his price at Zona). Carlesimo came into the picture when Pitino told Newton that he was not going to talk to him or anyone about the job untill his (Knicks) season was done. Pitino told C.M. that if they needed a coach right away then he would suggest Carlisimo or Calapari. Pitino also spoke with Red Aurebach about the Kentucky job and was advised to take it.

We need a new forum under college sports....College Coaching Changes

John Pelfrey!!!!! Should have been hired instead of BCG. Kentucky boy who knows what UK basketball is all about.

Pelfrey was a great player and he would have gotten my vote. But, since the higher ups picked Gilespe, I think he needs more than a season to prove that he is a good coach.:thumb:

From what I've heard, Bill Self is going to be the next coach at Oklahoma St.

Even Coach K would have a hard time fixing the mess Tubby left. This situation will not be a quick fix.

Coaching is a business. If it happens, UK just moves forward and tries to get the best hire for the program. BCG was not the first coach at UK and will not be the last. The only certain is, if it does happen then BGP will have a few pages devoted to the story!!!:;)

Weiss is writing metaphorically ... he's talking about the local mindsets, not the actual facilities.

Maybe so...

Still, the article would have still made sense had he said Keeneland.
