I also dont know much about the rivaly or reasons why Bell cant get these teams to play, but in reality why would they, they are small schools compared to Bell adn thus Bell has more players to choose from. Why doesnt Bell play Boyle or Danville a few times, they are always looking for games. Heck I would say take the Bell kids to Louisville for a overnight trip and play one of the big 3 there, see where your talent and program stands then.

Thank you.

If you are implying that Bell is dodging Belfry you are mistaking. First of all that is our problem we have teams the Caliber of Belfry right here, without the 4 hour drive and they won't play. So make the trip on over here if you want to.

I don't know if that is what JD was implying or not, but I don't think Bell is one to dodge good competition. They don't have to.

There are some awesome reasons for Bell and Belfry to play and I think it would a premier series in KY football. But there are drawbacks too, especially if you guys are already doing a lot of traveling to fill your schedule. I would love to see it happen, and I feel sure Belfry would make the trip every other year. But if it wouldn't work for Bell and they don't want to travel here the other years, then so be it. No need to read too much into it and throw stones.

Heck, maybe when the schedules come due again for 2009 we can work something out.

This is about Harlan County.

Well put Watusi. The fans of Bell Co. have lots of respect for the Pirates and Coach Haywood. They used to have some battles in the playoff's if I remember correctly?

Back to the topic at hand. Will the current Harlan CO. high schools (C'land, Cawood, and Evarts) Head Coaches be on the new schools staff?

They were offered last season a 2 year or 4 year contract, with Belfry coming to Bell Co. first, and they said no thanks. Thats not rumor either its fact.

On the the real subject, how long has Larkey been coaching and how close is he to retirement?

Would he be taking this job for 5-10 years, or would it be short term?

Would they allow him to hire his own staff, or will they make him take some coaches from the other schools?

Tom is retired as a public school teacher. I am pretty sure that for the last 2-3 years he has been a substitute teacher and coach only. I don't know how that stuff works but I don't think he would even have to be a full-time-teacher anymore.

I think Tom has been coaching for 25-30 years. I know that Chris Larkey played for Tom and he has been an assistant for 18 years. So I know that Tom has been a head coach for 25+ years.

BTW, I am calling Tom Larkey, Tom or Big Tom because there are 3 different coaches at Rockcastle named Larkey. I don't want anyone getting confused about who I am referring to. Chris is Chris Larkey and Dackery Larkey will be refered to as Dackery.

I had to clear that up, I am not trying to be disrespectful by any means.

Chris came to RCHS in his sophomore year, I believe. This would have been in '85-'86, if I'm not mistaken. So that tells you how long he's been at Rockcastle.

He has been coaching for 33 years, 27 of them have been as a head coach at either Laurel County(4) or Rockcastle County (23). He was an assistant at Laurel County and Cawood for the remainder of the 6 years. He has been retired for 3 years as a school teacher.

I heard that Coach Larkey told his players today that he was leaving. Has anyone else heard this? I sure do hate to see him go but wish him the best whatever he decides to do. He has really been the best for Rockcastle and will do his best whether he goes or stays. The Rock won't be quite the same without him.

Is Tony Saylor related to Tim Saylor?

And which one was the head coach at Whitesburg several years back?

Is Tony Saylor related to Tim Saylor?

back?

NO.
