Tom Larkey to Harlan?

Featured Replies

My short list (front runners in bold): Blair, Parkey, Josh Martin, Poynter, Clay County head coach

Leonidas, Scott Parkey is the leading assistant. He had some HUGE success as a middle school coach. He coached Regan, Leger, and the rest of those teams and even had a 3-4 year undefeated streak.

So Scott Parkey only has middle school experience. from what I always thought Coach Larkey called the offense of Friday nights and his son Chris did the JV offense, and his other son Dackery did the freshmen offense. I dont believe Coach Parkey has any experiance coaching any level of high school, unless he did in the last 3 years. Why doesnt his son want the job? Also coach Larkey came from London, not harlan but was there at some point in his career.

Don't forget to quote me or I will sue your pants off :D  Just Kidding.

Anyway, Scott has been an assistant for many years, I not 100% sure of his duties but it has something to do with QB's and the offense. He isn't some lame bench coach, he does something important, I just can't remember for sure and didn't want to be incorrect.

Tom probably wants a new challenge. He KNEW he could win in Mt. Vernon, I guess he is just going home.

His home has been in Laurel County since birth, a few years in Loyall while at Cawood other than that.

I think there are way too many people shooting the guns off here about too many different topics at once too quickly.

The banquet has been set for over a month now.

There is nothing official from Rockcastle County.

Assistants with years coaching at RCHS.

When Larkey does leave the Rock in the future, one of the foundations of success has been to keep people involved in coaching that has been a part of the program. Almost every coach that has been an assistant at the Rock for the past 20 some odd years has been a former player of his or an alumnus of RCHS. I'd guess that over 98% of his coaching staff's have been made up of only his former players. I doubt Rock would ever look any further than their front door for another coach. I'd also like to point out that I think it is funny that more people in other counties know what is going on than the people in Rockcastle County. I think everyone should just be patient and wait till they announce something that is published in a paper.

Parkey, that is the name I have heard. More money involved now than what Knox offered.

We need some rockcastle insider to tell us if he is really taking the job, cause it is really trying not to get out in Harlan. Everyone I talk to in Harlan says not to tell. I guess what I'm saying if it was already a done deal, I know the people in Harlan and they would want to tell everyone. Also if I'm rock keep him, name the field after him do anything you can to keep him because as of right now Harlan really thinks they have stole a coach.

I have tried to call him for 2-3 days but I can't get an answer. I have e-mailed Dackery but he doesn't respond, (he is a busy man though). I am going to try to call Chris Larkey at the school during his planning period.

A few things I can assure you of:

1) Dackery and Chris neither one will be the next head coach ANYWHERE.

2) Chris WILL NOT LEAVE ROCKCASTLE unless he retires. He has 15+ years in the school system and has recently been married to a woman that is not a big fan of moving :D

3) Dackery may leave to be an assistant at Harlan, but I seriously doubt it

4) Scott Parkey will be gone if Tom Larkey does take the Harlan job, WRITE IT DOWN. The only thing that would make him stay is

4a) If he becomes the head coach at Rockcastle

4b) If nobody else will hire him as the head coach

5) If you are a Rockcastle fan or a fan of rumors mills get ready. If Big Tom leaves, they will be rampant.

What exactly is Scott Parkey's title? I have never been sure of it.

When I put on my work boots and layers of clothing everday sometimes I wish I had an inside-desk job. If your kids went to work with me you could almost pencil in that college degree. I always thought Laurel County was home to Coach Larkey. I know he made a stop once in Harlan but Harlan isn't his home. Good luck to Larkey and the Black Bears seems like to me its a winning pair.

What time does your job with work boots and layers of clothing start? You made this post at 8:52  just kidding lungbuster! I don't know for sure were Larkey's home is, it may be Laurel County but the new Harlan County Coaching Position would be hard to turn down in my opinion. Hope the rumor is true

Most likely it will be 5A. The competition will include Whitley, Letcher and Clay.

Also, it's Harlan County High School.

HDE also Highlands, Cov Cath......ect.......so......

I think he meant in district. Throw in the two Laurel Counties also. If Harlan County gets designated 5A and gets Larkey as HC, look out!

I can see them winning the district 1st year in........after that things get tuff.

If the rumor is true (which I'm pretty sure that it is) and Larkey is coming to coach the Black Bears, that he would not be bringing any of his assistants with him. I think that the whole moving process is playing a big factor in any of his assistants leaving Rock.

If I knew when it started myself I would let you know. It starts anytime after this beeper goes off on any day or night everyday of the week. Does the railroad ring a bell. If you are so interested in my job maybe you can tag along when I get called out the next time. I agree that the people of Harlan need to slow down and wait because it is never a done deal until the lady sings and even though she is warming up she hasn't started yet.

With South or North, Letcher, Clay, Whitley, Perry?

HDE also Highlands, Cov Cath......ect.......so......

They both know what defeat taste like from the Rock. Either way when next years re-alignment happens I always heard HHS and CCHS were dropping back to 4A?

I hope so :ylsuper:

I can't keep up with all of this. My phone has been ringing off the hook and I can't delete e-mails fast enough for all of them to come in. I am having to delete my entire inbox, just to get everyone's messages, Keep them coming though, I am not upset, I am trying to sort through all of this. All of that would be worth it if he stayed.

I hope he stays too and I'm from Harlan. I would just love to have someone a little younger. Hey and when you think of rock you think of larkey.:dancingpa
