Tom Larkey to Harlan?

Featured Replies

Maybe Coach Larkey needs a change, how amny years has he been at Rockcastle. I didnt know you had to stay in the same place forever. I hate to see Coach larkey leave Rockcastle,he cared about winning, but kids first. I think Coach Saylor should be the next coach, he deserves it. Coach larkey will run a variety of formations with an emphasis on the run and play action. He keeps the defense off the field, his teams have been known to keep the ball for 18 minuetes a half before. Harlan is getting a great coach in my opinion.

Welcome to the site, Crazy Horse :thumb:

Tom probably wants a new challenge. He KNEW he could win in Mt. Vernon, I guess he is just going home.

Head coaches love a new challenge and getting that opportunity to do it by going home is really tough to turn down. Who knows, next week is a long time from now and he may change his mind...but I doubt it!

I man goes to Florida for a weekend and everything changes. If this is true Welcome to Harlan County coach Larkey. You are truely one of Kentucky's best High School coaches. Great hire for Football and now on to Basketball and the other sports.

It must be nice lungbuster to go off to Flordia for the weekend on a teaching salary :thumb: If this is true then I too want to WELCOME Coach Larkey to Harlan County. With well over 100 kids for him to work with then look out next year cause the Black Bears could be for real :ylsuper:

If he wanted Chris or Dackery to take over, why wouldn't Coach just retire? Why go to Harlan?

$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I think it is well known neither will replace him when leaves/retires. Saylor will probally ride off into the sunset as well. Larkey has always ran a 2 or 3 back offense except for a few years when they ran the shotgun. On defense they will run the 6-2. Saylor has been the man responsible for the defense rock currently runs and I don't see anyone else spending the time needed to implement it at Harlan, plus you better have some horses if you play the 7 diamond!!!!!

Has Rockcastle had their banquet yet?

When I put on my work boots and layers of clothing everday sometimes I wish I had an inside-desk job. If your kids went to work with me you could almost pencil in that college degree. I always thought Laurel County was home to Coach Larkey. I know he made a stop once in Harlan but Harlan isn't his home. Good luck to Larkey and the Black Bears seems like to me its a winning pair.

I am pretty confident that neither Chris or Dackery will be the head coach of Rockcastle if indeed Coach Tom Larkey decides to leave.

Then who would take over?

Makes sense now.

Raider who is one of the other asst. that maybe trying to get the job?

Then who would take over?

I KNOW Scott Parkey will apply and I am sure some former assistants/players will as well. I think William Blair will CERTAINLY apply, he wont get the job, but he will apply :D From what I can tell the Clay County head coach is trying to leave and I am sure that Blair will leave also.

My short list (front runners in bold): Blair, Parkey, Josh Martin, Poynter, Clay County head coach

Leonidas, Scott Parkey is the leading assistant. He had some HUGE success as a middle school coach. He coached Regan, Leger, and the rest of those teams and even had a 3-4 year undefeated streak.

Poynter from Trimble County could be a real possibility as well, he has a good record to bring with him and the system would not change much.

I think Parkey and Poynter are the clear favorites.

February 3rd.

Well, Harlan countians, there is the date you should look forward to. A few years back he was going to announce at the banquet that he was leaving to coach at Knox Central but backed out when he looked into the eyes of his players. If you (Harlan) still have a commitment on Feb. 4th, you will have one of the top coaches in the state as well as a class individual.

I remember that and either that season or the next he became Athletic Director :D

So Scott Parkey only has middle school experience. from what I always thought Coach Larkey called the offense of Friday nights and his son Chris did the JV offense, and his other son Dackery did the freshmen offense. I dont believe Coach Parkey has any experiance coaching any level of high school, unless he did in the last 3 years. Why doesnt his son want the job? Also coach Larkey came from London, not harlan but was there at some point in his career.

We need some rockcastle insider to tell us if he is really taking the job, cause it is really trying not to get out in Harlan. Everyone I talk to in Harlan says not to tell. I guess what I'm saying if it was already a done deal, I know the people in Harlan and they would want to tell everyone. Also if I'm rock keep him, name the field after him do anything you can to keep him because as of right now Harlan really thinks they have stole a coach.
