So you would put those universities on the same level as Yale, Penn, Harvard, MIT, etc.? I'm pretty sure that it has been quite thoroughly proven that smaller is, in fact, better.

 

Really? If so, then why do each of the schools you listed have over 10,000 students (or close to 20,000 in Harvard's case) (by the way, all of those schools are 3-6 times the size of my alma mater, yet my alma mater, while a nationally ranked school, is not regarded as highly as those)? Why wouldn't they shrink the size of the school to make it even harder to get into, thus taking the cream of the cream of the crop? There are plenty of examples of very strong large schools and some very bad small schools.

 

And if smaller is in fact better, since, according to you, it's universally known, then why is KY's primary educational system ranked so poorly nationally when it seems as though surrounding states have larger public schools?

I don't live in NKY. I don't see Highlands play. Any opinion I have of Highlands one way or another is irrelevant due to lack of knowledge, that is all there is to that.

We did when the numbers were skeweed in your favor. As we do now. A real problem is the supreme lack of quality coaching around our county. We may have more numbers than the JC schools, but we are more disciplined, conditioned and prepared, than 90% + of the teams in JC.

When you field a team that is 90% seniors and juniors its easier to be more disciplined, conditioned, and prepared.

It's not the number in the pool; it's what you do with them.

In the year 2000 Highlands beat Trinity 42- 29 and also a 2-8 Fern Creek team 55-0. Since then...

2002 Male 35 Highlands 24

2005 StX 45 Highlands 0

I use the year 2000 because that where I've seen (while always the best) a significant separation from the pack of X and T.

When you field a team that has played under the same system and coaching techniques, and played since 3rd grade under those conditions, it is easy to be more disciplined, trained, and conditioned. Everyone keeps leaving out the Catholic Grade School leagues that coach these kids from 3rd grade on. Most of the CSAA coaches are ex Trinity or X, and coach the same type systems, training, dedication, and goals of winning to these kids. These kids dream of playing for X or T in a State Championship game from the time they are youngsters. That is the biggest asset of them all, regardless of what you think. I have put two sons thru high school football in Jefferson County. One played for the CSAA league and then Trinity, the other for the Optomist and then a Public School. The difference was absolutely unreal in terms of basics, techniques, attitudes, etc. with the private sector winning hands down. My son who entered Trinity as a freshman was so far ahead of my son who entered public school in terms of discipline, knowledge of X's and O's, etc. 6 of the kids who started on my son's CSAA team went immediately to public school and became outstanding players.

Thats great, how about those teams were better than Highlands those years. You for some reason do not mention the victories Highlands had those years over larger schools. And I usually don't like to reference scrimmages, but Highlands pretty much had thier way with Male in 2007. I don't think you'll ever hear anyone from Highlands cry about an unfair advantage in enrollment numbers. They go to everygame expecting to win. And if it doesn't work out that way, I'd say they'd give kudos to the other team, and go back to work to beat the next opponent large or small. I'm guessing you're a Manuel fan, maybe I'm wrong, but according to your enrollment dominance theory had they played Highland this year, the Birds would stand no chance. Think that is reality?

Manual. Sorry didn't do it on purpose. Even though we lost 45-0 to X, I really liked the stadium.

Let's be honest, numbers aren't everthing--but they are an advantage for X and T which most 6A schools can't overcome. I say let the public schools build as many schools as they want, but for football purposes only allow schools to consoldiate to form a competitive team. Let Butler and PRP have 1 team, or let kids from Moore or Shawnee play at Butler or PRP. That would give each school a bump of at least a 400 or 500 potential players. Let Atherton kids play at Seneca, etc.. This is similar to what the CSAA does on a smaller scale for grade school football in Jefferson County.

Last time I checked, HHS is not a 6A school and has less than half the enrollment of boys of X or T. Who cares what they did against Male? They are not in our division. You are just looking to pick a fight and I will not bite on the bait of your previous messages. I will respectfully tell you good day sir/madam and move on, knowing that our boys were perfect this year and you can't take that away from them.

The merger idea has me thinking.... PRP/Eastern= Preastern (Black uniforms with white collars). Manual/Seneca= Maneca. Fern Creek/Male= Fern Male or Male Creek. Oldham/South Oldham= Oldham2 (squared) Could have a cool helmet decal that chemistry geeks would chuckle over..... and the best.... Male/Ballard= Mallard. They could be the Fighting Ducks!
