Basketball is nothing like football. In basketball, individual talent can win out. In basketball, precision in execution is not critical to offensive success. In basketball, there isn't the possible advantage of specialization for offense and defense.

 

In basketball, you have five guys on the floor and maybe ten others on the bench. In football, you have 11 on the field and maybe 89 on the sidelines. Stop bringing up basketball.

 

Of course you do not want to talk about basketball because it contradicts your argument. We will continue to bring it up. Football is the ONLY sport in which Trinity is truly dominant. You all can spin this numbers thing any way you want but it is not the reason T/X dominate football. Numbers help, but I thing other things contribute more than sheer numbers. Nobody ever will convince me about this issue. There is no way in the world that if you have 1400 boys to choose from that you can't put together a competitive basketball team almost every year.

Since Highlands isn't the issue, and succeeds for DIFFERENT reasons than X and T, I don't find it to be telling of the thread at all.

I just don't see where it's useful to examine Highlands; it certainly doesn't remove the cornerstone of RRR's arguments to choose not to address them.

Well, one reason St. X hasn't succeeded in basketball is because we don't have much recent tradition in the sport and we don't put much emphasis on the sport (for better or worse). Berg is a great guy and a good coach, but I think we could find better coaches (not a better person though), although I hope that he's allowed to stay as long as he wants, even if that does mean not being a Sweet 16 team 95% of the time. Now, we do have plans for a new arena in the works, and things might change with that, as it will hopefully be a top of the line facility, which does draw kids.

When I was in high school there were "shared" classes as well, with some of our seniors gon to Assumption and Sacred Heart, and vice versa.

 

You mean you actually went to classes with girls sometimes??? EEEEWWWWWWW

How about some of the largest schools in the state, outside of Louisville, get better?

You're right, I don't think its fair that your school is FREE and has the majority of the athletes.

The rest of 6A are not lousy programs. They are good program with a SERIOUS numerical disadvantage, if the numbers more equitable X and T wouldn't dominate as much as they do.

 

We did when the numbers were skeweed in your favor. As we do now. A real problem is the supreme lack of quality coaching around our county. We may have more numbers than the JC schools, but we are more disciplined, conditioned and prepared, than 90% + of the teams in JC.
