Actually I don't get to as many games as I would like. I'm alot calmer at basketball games simply because I don't understand the game as much as football. However, I have broken out the whistle in a gym or two and I must say, it is alot louder at the indoor arena than an outdoor arena. I have to make sure I sit next to someone that knows me and knows whats coming. If they don't they usually end up moving.

Just kidding. You know smiley face:D People are way to uptight on here. Highlands won a mid season game against CovCath. Sure it's a nice win, and a great experience for Highland's soph's. In the long run its just that, a nice win. Since there is no seeding involved in the region it means nothing, except for bragging rights.

Man, I hate that I was out of town and had to miss the game. Sounds like it was another great one. No doubt CovCath missed the injured player.

 

Nonetheless, major big Kudos to both teams. While the score may have surprised some folks, the fans of these two schools probably weren't surprised. Even when there has been a big disparity in talent, a lot of the games have been close.

 

I'm sure the place was packed and rocking. The last time Henry and I tried to go to the game at CovCath, but for Drew Ellison's father whom I had then recently met (great guy by the way), we'd have been on the outside all night.

My thoughts on the game:

1) Cov Cath needs to get Grimes the ball more and Noll since he was a lot taller then anyone else

2) Highlands would of beat Cov Cath by more if they didnt miss a lot of lay ups.

3) Maile needs to learn not to force shots up

4) Highlands needs to get a deeper bench if they want to win the Region

5) They missed Bondick very much. But you never know what the out come would of been

6) Future doesnt look to bright for Highlands Basketball. The JV score was bad.

7) Cov Cath might have the best JV team around, they hasnt lost a game yet

8) McGraw is a great play was on fire in the 1st quarter. Just image on ugly this game would of been if he didnt come back to play

9) I am very suprised that Listerman didnt call a timeout when they made the basket to go up by 1 with not much time left so they could set up a defense.

10) I am glad that James Pouncy(sp) was the refree the other two were really bad.

11) I know Cov Cath did chants last year about being State Champion in football but why in the world would people at Highlands let them bring the tropy to the game. You know how big this game is... You know how many fights there are at these games. Why would you want to bring it to the game and risk it getting broke.They have all the rights to rub in it.

12) I know you have to respect Cov Cath/NDA but why do you let the band play at a big game like this. You could make more money and get more fans at the game.

13)Get Noll the Ball

I think the region is between 3 teams and maybe 4 wait and see Friday.

The last one will be Boone County. They are very young.

 

But I think honestly it will come down to Cov Cath Holmes.

A JV score means little, when the sophomores are playing varsity (and hitting the game winning shot).

My thoughts on the game:

Sounds like a lot of excuses and coulda, woulda, shoulda's though.

 

Bottom line. Birds defeated Colonels on their floor for the 2nd time in a row and showed that they can easily be ranked #1 in the Region just as Holmes or CCH can.

Great win for Highlands!

Henderson from Holmes could guard just about anybody, including Greg. I beleive 2 or 3 of them could. One of the fastest teams I've seen around.

Really hope that the getting beat by HHS on the CovCath home floor brings out the same results as 2006 did (BTW HHS won by 2 in that game 56-54). If memory serves me correctly, CovCath blew out HHS at Ryle by a score of 75-57 to earn the right to play NCC in the 9th Region Final which of course CovCath won to earn another trip to Rupp....

 

Thank you gryche11 for bring up some fond memories. And my oh my, what a night Danny Noll had against HHS. Noll almost scored as many points (35) as he earned on his ACT (36) that night.
