Here are 10 points I noted after the game:

 

1) Bondick would have have been a huge help tonight. Roll had too many turnovers in late in the game. His 3pter was big though.

2) Why was Schmerge guarding Simpson? That was a bad matchup.

3) Best player on the floor tonight was Greg McGraw, by far.

4) Calling Arron Noll? Arron Noll? Did he have to leave early or something.

5) Mitch Shover is the best true PG in the 9th Region.

6) Did Highlands bring a JV team, wow that was bad score.

7) Luke Maile is a good player who takes too many bad shots.

8) "Hey Coach L, get the ball to Michael Grimes more often"

9) Corey Sorrell or Greg McGraw??? NKU might want to rethink their hometown recruits.

10) This has to be the best rivalry in the state of KY, I don't care what anyone says. If you attend this game every year. 9 out 10 times its going to be barn burner.

NKU landed a good one in Corey, why question that in this thread? :confused:

He's been exceptional ALL SEASON, again this year for the Indians. Why knock on him?

 

I've seen them both and I'd take Corey first as well. Easy pick.

CovCath falls into a 2-3 zone down one in the 4th. HHS literally just stands and hold the ball for minutes. If I'm the visiting team I do everything I can to get to one minute and be in the ball game. Colonels just let them do it. The lack of defensive pressure by the Colonels was just shocking. I'll say it again, either poor game plan by Coach Listerman, or he wasn't showing his hand. All in all nice game by the Birds. Big time experience for the sophs. I would really like to see these 2 on opposite sides of the bracket in the regional.

McGraw is a better player when he is on the court, however, he is very fragile. Also Sorrell comes from the right school.

Why do you say I'm knocking Corey Sorrell? Im not, I just think from what I have seen that Greg McGraw is better. I've seen him 3 times this year and each time I've thought he's played even better than Simpson.

 

Sorrell has gotten better also from what I've seen, but I think most would agree that no one thought Corey Sorrell was good enough last year to get a offer from NKU.

I agree with OldGuy here. Remember when everyone was complaining about Willie. Myself and 83birds said, "In the end, talent prevails." The same way Listerman's seen as the "the best coach in the state"...and Dale, and Pete Carroll....etc, etc. All of these guys a really, really good coaches but if they don't have talent they're considered average at best.

 

Anyway, the announcers were also wondering why Grimes didn't get very many touches down the stretch. Sounded like he was tough to guard. When do either of these teams play Holmes?

Hate is too strong a word for high school sports. Is there another school that CovCath or Highlands would rather beat than the other, I highly doubt it.

1st off I have to say if Greg McGraw is healthy, he's a top 5 player.

 

I think the only guys I can think of who can guard McGraw are Arrez Henderson and his teammate Nick Simpson.

You are right in this point. I feel that Willy is creating basketball players at Highlands and not just football/basketball/baseball players at Highlands. Congrats to the team and to Willy. He is creating a team of basketball players that are athletes in their sport .

 

So Eaton isn't going to play soccer and Simpson isn't playing golf. Turner, Guidugli, and Grubbs should quit and get into the weight room for football? Watson is giving up baseball? I don't think so. Athletes are athletes. IF you can make the team, then you are a PLAYER of that sport. No matter if you make multiple squads. It's really quite simple. You don't NEED to specialize. It would be okay if they all played just one sport and dedicated themselves exclusively to that sport. But don't denigrate a kid who can play multiple sports with the label "just a FB player on the court/diamond/golf course/etc..."

Your right. I didn't mean it to come out as these kids were only basketball players and it certainly read that way. I guess what I meant to say is that even though many play other sports, Willy is really pulling out the inner basketball player in his kids. Even though they play other sports, basketball for some of these kids is their best sport and Willy brings that out.

This was my first time seeing Highlands this year and they are the real deal. Greg McGraw really impressed me tonight. Highlands certainly proved they belong in the same conversation as Cov. Cath. and Holmes. I would not want to play them until I had to in the regional championship.

I would like to offer some friendly advice to Covington Cathoilc. First of all the young man who wears number 40 for CC expended way to much energy in warm ups. He must have dunked the ball ten times. He doesn't do it easily, which causes him to expend a tremendous amount of energy in his legs. Take it easy big fella and save yourself. Secondly dont try to pick up McGraw and Simpson at half court. That spelled disaster for CC. So goes McGraw so goes Highlands. He was clearly the best athlete on the court last night.

DMZ you need to lighten up a little. I took the Oldguy's statement as a compliment rather than a bash against the birds. What Willie has this year is several very talented players along with other players who compliment them very well. Nic Simpson and Greg McGraw are definitely among the cream of the crop in NoKy and Stephen Kowolonek has quickly gained a reputation as an up and coming player. Michael Eaton and Zach Hurtt understand there roles and perform them very well along with the sophomores, Ben Watson, Tyler Grubbs and George Grote.

 

To answer your question Boom, I have seen noone that can guard Greg McGraw one on one, but I have not seen Holmes play yet.
