Who have the Wolfpack and/or the NKY Wildcats beat this year? The colonels should be good also shouldn't they?

I saw the Hornets playing in the Jazz tournament this weekend at NKU. I am not sure if they won or lost, however I do remember they were playing a Mason County team. Anyone else there that could add insight?

 

The Hornets won all four games by large margins, 20 points plus. The other four teams each lacked the height, strength, and depth to compete with the Hornets. There were a couple of nice players in the tourney, but the teams were not ready for the Hornets level of play.

 

The Hornets shoot the ball very well from outside when wide open. Would like to see them play against teams of equal talent and quickness to see if they can score in a half court set.

Colonels, Wolfpack, Wildcats NKY, and the Warriors will all be very good, 1 of these 4 will win it unless there is a suprise in 9/u.

 

In the 11/u DII I think the Wolfpack is a prohibitive favorite and would consider it a monumental upset if they didn't win it. Somerset, Lincoln County, Clinton County, and the Lexington Lightning will be battling for berths in the final 4.

 

In 11/u DI I am almost sure Dalton will be playing with the Ville and not going to play with the Knights this season. I think that makes them the favorite with the Wolfpack (just kidding), Suns, and Legends right there with them.

Personally, I would rather compete at D1 then play D2. And, please don't anybody take this as a knock to teams that are playing D2 because I know each team / coach has his or her own personal preference. When the Georgetown Thunder was 11 (I am still trying to forget the experience and wipe it from my memory) we played D2 and had the worst weekend we have ever had, losing to a couple of teams that had no business beating us (sorry, qryche11, I believe you were involved with one of the teams). We entered the tournament on like a 20 game win streak, having won 4-5 tournaments in a row -- some beating teams that played D1. In fact, we had played the D1 champion that year -- Louisville Suns -- twice and lost by 3 and 4 points and were in both games to the end. We did D2 because we wanted to stay in Lexington and play in the nationals. But, now they allow teams (in fact, the Louisville Suns won the state and ended up playing D2 nationals, which I was originally told was not allowed -- but that's another story).

 

I guess what I am saying is we decided we would rather play against the best than worry about the end result. In fact, we finished 2nd nationally in D2 in 10U then went 4-3 last year in the D1 nationals and I honestly felt better about our accomplishment last year than I did in 10U. The only thing I have from 10U is a big silver trophy that I still display today. But, from last year, I have the satisfaction of knowing I put my kids up against the best.

 

Well I wasnt personally on the floor although I have come close . I would also say that on that night the NKY Rockets played a whale of a game and clearly beat the Thunder by 10pts. Not that they want a medal or anything for it but it was a very well played game by the Rockets.

 

I think your last comment makes the most sense when you have a team comprised of individual players such as yours. You get more satisfaction out of giving those kids the experience of playing against top D1 talent Nationally than you do staring at a trophy. Its like an old coach used to tell me when talking about trophies. He would say if you guys want a trophy so bad come on over to my house and I can pull one out of my closet and give you one but if you want to play hard and have fun while experiencing one of the greatest games on earth then stop worrying about trophies.

We let Hoge and Urlage play up with a group of 12U kids last spring and Hoge handled pressure fine and in fact made some very nice plays going to the rack. Urlage was a little shellshocked but when he found his groove he was lights out from 3pt range. I think as those kids get older they will adapt to the quickness of the game and get stronger. Speed of the game is the most important reason IMO you play AAU ball. Not to win state or national tourneys but to get your kids ready for school ball.

From 11/u D II final 4 last year, the Ville has moved up to D I, the Bulldogs are playing without Dalton, Team Access( Wayne Co) is not playing, and I don't think Somerset is playing near as well as last season.

 

It will be a very interesting tournament this year and I am curious to see what teams end up in the final 4 this year. My predictions are, in order,

1. Wolfpack- good size, good guard play, good coach

2.Somerset- good coach,experience, excellent shooters

3. Lincoln County Ballers- athletic and well coached, play very hard

4.Lexington Lightning- solid, Fucci is a man, home court advantage

 

Albany Bulldogs have a shot but playing without Dalton and adding the 2 kids from Wayne will be interesting. They haven't played together since 9/u.

Does any one know of any 7th grade or AAU 13U, teams playing at the BCI, this weekend. I think South & North Laurel's, 7th grades are playing this week end.

I like your predictions. I think the finals will be Wolfpack vs Lexington Lightning with the Wolfpack winning the D2 title. You are right on Somerset. They may make the final four but with the way they have been playing this season, they may not. Hopefully they can get it together and make a run.

Your analysis is correct as they are grade exceptions and they will probably tryout for the Highlands 7th grade team as 6th graders next season. Yes they were playing up 1 birth year so I consider that playing up.

The Hornets finally played at their age level. They have been playing up all year and want to play the highest level of competition around. This is why they are playing Div 1 in Lexington. The coaches and players feel like they should play Div 1 after placing 2nd in the state last year (which isnt bad for putting a bunch of kids together and not running a CLUB AAU TEAM). Teams like the Wolfpack only play Div 2 so they have a chance to win a championship. This isnt necessarily the goal of the Hornets. Their goal is to play the best and improve as the year goes on. Seems to me their are alot of coaches on here that are living their lives through their kids. It's sad!

 

Good Luck to all teams and hopefully you have fun, learn and play good competition. These are the things you remember for the rest of your lives. Not necessarily winning championships!
