UserName Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I was just wondering who are the better NKY AAU teams this year? I like to follow as much as possible so any help is appreciated. I am interested in all divisions (4th through 8th). Which teams are good enough to play Div 1 this year down state?
Qryche11 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Teams I have heard or seen. 6th- Tar Heels (usually play up), Wolfpack 7th- Wolfpack, NKY Warriors (formerly Rockets)

I am interested in all divisions (4th through 8th). Which teams are good enough to play Div 1 this year down state? The Wolfpack are very strong across all the grades (4th-8th). Here are other good teams that I know of. 4th - Omega All Stars, Rockets 5th - Hornets (playing up in Mt Zion league) 6th - Tar Heels 8th - Tar Heels, Hornets, Raptors Other than the Tar Heels, these teams play in leagues on Sundays at SOAS Mt Zion.
futboller Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Do you think that the 7th grade wolfpack will move up to D1 this year.

Hornets? Where are most of these kids from? Do they have any players to pay attention to in the coming years? Omega. I watched this team last year. They seemed to be coached well and had some success.
Qryche11 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Do you think that the 7th grade wolfpack will move up to D1 this year. Not unless they get a big man over 6 foot as well as a true point guard who can deal with the physicality of AAU Div 1 basketball. Its a major step up. They have several athletic kids at the 2, 3 and even 4 spots but not sure they can compete with the 1 and 5 being solid.

I believe most of the kids will either be going to HHS or NCC....I would say McDonald who is a big post player and the Hodge kid who is a very talented guard. Hodge is the son of Merrill Hodge...

Hodge is the son of Merrill Hodge... Hoge is a very good player, he played up with our group of 7th graders this Spring in the Evendale league and held his own. He will definitely be a Bird as well as Griffin Urlage who can shoot very well and is also a fine player. Jackson Hall, coaches son is a future Bird. McDonald is a beast and he is destined for the HILL where his mom and Dad played. I hear he is a nationally ranked golfer for his age as well.

I think the Wolfepack has a very nice team and have seen them play several times. I think they can and should compete in D1 along with the Louisville Storm team. The Wolfepack is a NKY allstar team. D2 is for school or community teams simply put. I think they can compete in D1 on the national scene. I doubt they would win the championship but they would compete! KY was well represented and did fine at D1 Nationals last year. There is a huge difference in the D1 tournament. The athletes are bigger, quicker and stonger. The speed of the game is much quicker at the D1 level than the D2 level and huge difference than middle school ball. Plus you get to measure yourself against the best kids this country has to offer. It is a true measure on what you need to improve and how much harder you have to work. Lets look at the current trend that is not going away with 7th & 8th Graders verbally commiting to major colleges just this past year. The D1 experience is so much different than the D2 tournament on the national level. The ceremonies are professionally done and the guest speakers are people who have been there and done that. Last years speaker was the president of the Jordan line and his message was powerful. Not to mention there will be college scouts and coaches at the 13U and 14U D1 nationals with "Lists" in hand checking and evaluating their list. I can not stress how important this is and you are only putting your kids at a disadvantage in their hoop dreams if you are playing in D2 or local tournaments. Your child can be great but if no one has seen them play or play against better competition then whose fault is it. All parents are going to have to make a choice. What's yours? I would like your opinions on this issue. I will post a letter from a friend of mine who is in the business a little later that I think you will find interesting. If not that is okay too. But I think it is important and that is why I will post it.
black 10 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 watched the Ville, play over the weekend. The Ville is going to be a very strong D1 13 under team. Their solid at every position and like to run a fast tempo style of play. I really like this team the looked very unselfish working the ball around for good shots. Most of these kids have experience playing D1, last year in the 12 under AAU National Tournament.
PutMeInCoach Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 NKY Firehawks, 7th grade. One starter with a broken growth plate, One starter with a broken collar bone. Two other starters aren't playing until school ball ends Hopefully they get healthy and mesh when tourny time starts.

All in all, there is a ton of talent in the area and the future of NKY basketball is very bright. I am looking forward to reading the letter you mention.

The advantages you mentioned go without saying for the kids that are looking to shine and get noticed. Its really about what you are trying to accomplish and I think you said it best. Can community teams compete at the Div 1 level, I doubt it. You simply have to go out and get the All Stars and formulate a team that can compete because that is what they are doing in Baltimore, New York, Florida, Texas, etc. I thought your post last summer on the experience of the Div 1 national tournament was great as well. Post the letter when you can. See you tonight :thumb:
stickymitts Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Has anyone seen the kids from Walnut Hills in Cincinnati play? They're 7th graders. I'm not sure what AAU team they play on but they're school team is LOADED!!! They have a Grimes kid who is their best player. Dantonio Wingfield's son is probably their third best player. They beat Norwood last night 93-2. No press, no trap and the starters played 5:30 minutes...:eek:
