March 8, 200818 yr You break down the NKY teams and I'll give you what I know about the rest. Albany Bulldogs are going DI 12/u. The kids decided that's what they want to do. You can still play in the DII nationals in Lexington. I hope we are competitive, if we play well I think we can compete, which will have to make us better. :ylsuper:
March 8, 200818 yr Some of the better DII teams that I am familiar with at the 12/u state NKY Wolfpack- 3 oustanding perimiter players, solid inside, rebounding and interrior defense will determine their fate. A definite threat to win it all. Scott Co Wolfpack- Excellent post player (5th grader), very solid ball club. If PG Humphries plays well( plays hard, very emotional) they are hard to beat. They could win it all. Lexington Catholic- Very good preimiter play, solid inside.Must get inside scoring to win it all. Again the play and emotions of their point guard Washington will dictate how far they go. Final 4 team. Johnson County- Very tall and long, will give some people matchup fits. Very solid team if their guard play holds up under the pressure of the smaller, quicker teams. Final four team. Sleepers Wayne County- They have a very nice squad to begin with, shoot it really well, and now they have their big kid moved in from Monroe County and he is excellent. Very small with the exception of the big kid, excellent PG, 3 good shooters. This team could be playing in the last game. Somerset- They have won DII every year in this age group. Finished 3rd behind the Warriors and Tarheels last year in the all for one tournament. They will be without Ryan Dishman who is one of the top players at this level and they are splitting their squads. It still says Somerset on top of the jersey and these kids expect to win. Can't count them out. Lewis County- I have only watched them a little but they have an excellent big man and a real good shooter. Would be a tough game for anyone and could pull a big upset. Good Luck on the trip to D1. The key for your team will be controlling the post players of the other teams. As for the NKY teams. You summed it up for the Wolfpack, it all comes down to that team playing it's games one by one. NKY Wildcats - They are a little undersized but are a strong perimeter threat. NKY Wolfpack (Wendling) - This team probably has the best D2 post player in the tournament. He hasn't played the last 2 weekends because of injury. This team just has no guard play at all. Get to the Rim - Very similar to the NKY Wildcats. They have one big man who is a good player, he just isn't on the floor enough for them to win when it's necessary. NKY Rockets - This could be the sleeper team of NKY. They are decent sized and have a very good forward who's tough to stop. All in all, I'm excited about a great tournament coming up next weekend.

They were well coached and solid. The D1 move just makes sense to me at the 6th grade level. We have beaten most of the teams in the field in DII. We probably over accomplished this year, and I don't want to lose to the teams we have already beaten(most have added at least one key player and some 2, and that would give them the advantage over us I think). The kids would not be excited playing all of those teams again and losing in the DII state short of the championship game and it would take a little something from what we accomplished this year. We are still the exact same school team and chose not to add anyone. This move to DI puts us back in the true underdog roll we used to improve so much over the past 3 years. We are excited about the challenge. I can still change back before the brackets are set but I am comfortable with what we are doing. We can't control their post players but if we can make shots and outscore them we will have a shot to at least be competitive in most of the games with a chance to win 1 maybe. As everyone knows inside is our weakness and we try to eliminate that by controlling the tempo. Most of these teams like to go up and down anyway. I know if we get in a close one they will try to wear us out inside, down the stretch. If we are making the three, we have a shot, if not, we will probably will regret the move. March 10, 200818 yr NKY Warriors 13U defeated the NKY Flash 40-36 yesterday. Devoto was burying 3's for the Warriors and Turner had a nice game offensively. Max Nussbaum is a nice player for the Flash. Warriors are going to start playing some tourneys preparing for the STate D2 tourney.

I consider the Flash one of the better teams in NKY. They definitely improved with picking up Nussbaum. By the score, I can tell the Flash played the typical gritty in your face D. The games they play in typically have lower scores.
March 10, 200818 yr Southernkyhoops or SHS Future - I see the Tarheels are missing from the U12 registered team list and the Lexington Panthers are as well. Any info on either team?? Are they playing?? I'm pretty sure the Tarheels are and I know the Panthers have said before that they will be there.

March 10, 200818 yr Good win for the Warriors. I consider the Flash one of the better teams in NKY. They definitely improved with picking up Nussbaum. By the score, I can tell the Flash played the typical gritty in your face D. The games they play in typically have lower scores. They played man-man the whole game and NKY Warriors put in some new offensive sets which was nice. The past 4-5 games they have been running pick and rolls at the top of the key and that was about it. This time more weaving out tip and big fellas cross picking for each other. Beuter hit some big free throws at the end to seal it. Warriors got up by as much as 10 but Flash pulled within 4 which was as close as they would get. Warriors still have a lot of work to do before State Tourney. They have the depth at all positions now but they have to get the Chemistry right. Flash Point guard is very good with the ball but made some poor decisions that costs them in the 2nd half. Player I was most impressed with was David Christian. He has really gotten stronger and increased his hand strength. He snagged probably 8-10 boards and many times Flash players had their paws on it and he just ripped it. He is growing also so I would expect him to shoot up to 6 feet plus in the next year or so. Their bigs that they rotate are Grosser 6'1 170, Christian 5'10 160 and Collopy 5'10 170. All very strong on the boards.
