I dont remember exactly, it was Friday night. I think the Warriors won by 10 or so. They were in control the whole game. It was definitely the worst officiating I have seen in a long time. Many parents from both teams were exhausted from gasping as kids hit the floor, were murdered in the lane and the refs just watched. I actually felt sorry for both teams with the way it was called but the Warriors controlled the game.

 

Firehawks look like they played the Cincy Warriors 13U pretty stong in their last game today. I think it was an 8 or 9 point game when I looked over and it was late in the 3rd. Cincy Warriors 13U had 10 kids and they all were pretty strong and skilled.

 

NKY Wolfpack defeated them on Friday night by 7 or 8 I think. Wolfpack looked flat today and the Warriors definitely outhustled them many times. McGovney is a strong player and sees the floor exceptionally well. I would say his only weakness is himself. I have seen him get frustrated when the game starts getting physical and if he can control those emotions, he can be one of the best players in the state in the future.

 

Finals are NKY Wolfpack vs. Cincy Warriors 13U. not sure who won.

I watched some of the Scott Co 8th grade boys play today at BCI. They had 16 kids on their squad and they had some studs. Tamron Manning is very good and does not look like an 8th grader. The game they were playing against Cincinnati Avondale was like a high school game. Scott Co won by 14 I believe and I heard some whisperings that they also have a kid from Frankfort that was on the team today. How far is Frankfort from Scott Co?

Must have been a rough weekend at the BCI tourney. I have talked to a couple of other people who said they wouldn't be back, after this weekend. It seems different people pay different prices and also one group was told they had 4 12/u teams and then got put in with the 13/u's and no one told them and then were cursed when they ask about it. I think they just went home in the middle of the tourney.

The kids name is Isiah Ivey and he is a stud. Has played for the Blaze (up to 12U) and The Ville (13U) with Manning, Jaylen Beckham from Bryan Station and some others. The Ville finished 4th in the nation last year in 13U D1. Richardson, who plays for Gtown Thunder, is also on the roster. Not sure how much he gets to play with all the studs they have. The freshman-to-be teams the last couple of years at Scott County have played D2 AAU. If they play this year (and the squad includes Manning and Ivey -- I had heard either The Ville or a new team in Lexington might get their services), they most definitely should play D1.

The BCI has always been this way. It's not just this weekend. Dave Clevenger, who runs BCI, is a great guy but you have to be careful in believing who is coming to play and what age groups. And, he does charge different prices, but I know he is not the only one. If you are smart, you will try to negotiate with any of these larger facilities -- Hoops, MidAmerica, etc.

BCI is a joke... No worse than a joke, as Qry said the ref'n was beyond awful. I wonder how those guys at night.

 

Quote of the day, one mom yelled, "call it both ways." Two refs from another game had just sat next to me as their game had just finished and ref 1 goes to ref 2 "is ... not calling it fair" ref 2 replies "no he never does, he's the worst official I know."

 

Needless to say it made me laugh.

I wonder if that was the Richmond Rockets 12U? I noticed they vanished suddenly as a group. Clevenger is going to end up just having all the thug Cincy teams come to his tournaments because I can tell you this, word travels fast around Campbell Co. and you wont find many teams on this side of the licking River traveling out there anytime soon. Like Rainman said, it is probably worth the hour/half drive to Louisville for atleast some fair games and adequate refereeing.

 

BCI is a business, its not about the kids. The guy is selling on the phone to coaches all week long and when he comes up short on teams he starts dropping prices just like a salesman trying to earn that extra commission. Hey, we got 4 games for $100 which was a great deal but the overall experience left an imprint on our boys and I am sure all the other young kids that had to witness that debacle after the Wolfpack/Warriors game.

There was one instance where a kid got murdered in the lane on a drive and a parent yelled call a foul and the idiot referee decided he needed to justify to the parent that the player driving initiated the contact and to "stop crying". Now that is professional, why not just ignore the parent and do your job. Another instance, one of our kids fouled out and our coach was taking his time putting a kid in as he clearly didnt have to have 5 on the floor for the 1st free throw of a 2 shot foul if he didnt want to. The same ref came over and said you have 10 seconds and he starting counting down like this, 10, 9, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1..... our coach just smiled at him like what are you going to do?

Richardson played a little and was effective when in the game. He made some nice drives and converted on an old fashion 3pt play early in the 4th qtr when it was only a 8 pt game. They have some quality players and the white haired coach certainly got into the game.

Dave is a good guy,but he will tell you there is alot more teams in the tourney than they really are. I have played at both BCI in FLorence and in Knott Co. Knott county officials are 50 times better. Most are HS officials. I will have a hard time ever going back to Florence after the last time I went. I can't stand to see that look on my kids face again.

Actually you have 20 seconds to make a substitution on a player disqualification. The free throws have nothing to do with your time limit as the substitution would be made before first shot is attempted. However, I agree with your assessment of the officials!
