I do not want to start another D1 vs D2 debate. My guess is right now, the 13U Wolfpack will be playing D2 similar to the other Wolfpack teams.

Definitely wasn't trying to start a debate. I think each team does what they think is best for their situation and that should be the end of the story. Having said that, I do have my opinions and my opinion says there will be about 3-4 teams that will play D2 in every age division that could have played D1 at the STATE level. But, there are probably only a handful of teams that can compete at the NATIONAL level, and only a couple that can truly compete for a medal at nationals in D1.

I don't care either way if the wolfpack plays D1 or DII, But I don't understand the above comment. Why would they not need to play D1? Why would they be better off playing DII? Just curious on your thinking of the above statement. I think it would only help them play D1 teams to prepare them if they plan on Playing DII. After all they are not a community team or school team.

I was speaking directly to what they plan on playing at state level. I have no problem with them playing D1 caliber to prepare. Overall team talent is not D1 talent.

I totally disagree. There are 3 or 4 players that are definitely D1 type players and they have a very strong roster 1 - 10. Adding the new player will help them at one of the deficient positions (point guard). I think of all the Wolfpack teams the U11 and the U13 are potential D1 teams. However, I think that decision is left up to the coaches.

 

But I disagree that the overall team talent is not D1.

If you believe the Wolfpack teams are D1 talents, why not play at that competition level? Why play D2? What factors would the coaches need to consider? If a coach believes they are competitive at the D1 level, that is where they should be playing.

Well, UserName, I'm not the coach and neither are you. I made an observation that alot of people on this board would agree with. Why they don't play D1 is their preference. If you want to play D1, put a team together and go do it. You will see that it is not the easy feat that some people act like it is. I applaud Rainman and their ability to be able to compete on the D1 level at state and nationally. I have watched that team for the past 6 years and the fact they compete at that level on a consistent basis is impressive.

An easy feat of:

 

1. Playing consistently at that level

2. Keeping your kids motivated and keeping their head in the game

 

The talent they acquire is why they are who they are. The Tarheels (spelling) do not have a U13 team and their U12 team was not very successful at state.

 

The bottom line is this - Teams are going to play in the division that their coaches determine the best "fit". Some teams create themselves knowing they are playing D1. Others create themselves and are unsure what division they will fit into. They have to make that determination as they go through their playing season.

We don't always compete at a high level, but we do have had a successful run, with 2 second place finishes at D1 state and a 2nd place national finish at the D2 level. But, having said that, we have also had a couple of disappointing state and national events. This year, we will have to have a perfect weekend to dethrone The Ville and a great weekend to finish 2nd again.

Mcclendon and the new kid rez from the tarheels played D-1 for years with pouncy and i think they can right now.

Rumor has it there are 115 teams playing at BCI this weekend. The Wolfpack have a 10:30 Friday night game. Yuck! Anyone know who else is playing 13U?
