Two of our players played with Mountain Thunder last year in the 12u division. They went 3-0 in their pool with a 10 point win over the Nets who finished runner-up to Somerset by 3. They made it to the final eight and were tied with Campbell County with about 2:30 left before they pulled away.

 

We may add a couple of the other players, so we are optimistic as always.

 

If one of the 2 players is Dylan (at least I am pretty sure that is the kid's name), then you have a shot. Mountain Thunder had 3 kids I thought were better than the rest, one was Dylan (#8 -- by far their best player), #11 -- taller skinny kid and Bryson (#15 -- curly hair)....

 

By the way, G'town Thunder played them about 5-6 times in 9U - 11U and I watched them play last year, so all that information may not be 100% accurate.

Dylan and Bryson would be the two. Last year was the only time Shane Hall played with them. He averaged double figures coming off the bench as the coach didn't want to change his lineup.

I misunderstood. I knew they were 6th graders last year, just thought maybe they were held back. So, with your philosophy of adding some other kids to help out your 6th graders, you should be fine to play 13U D2.

The talent level in the 7th grade in Kentucky is awesome. Much higher than the 6th or 5th. Lots of kids that can really play, good luck![/quote

 

This is surprising to me (which I will admit don't follow AAU like some of the people on this post). I would have said the 6th grade is very strong.

The "G-Men" George Town Thunder, and The Ville, is loaded with some of the top talent in the state. Plus their some other teams with really great talent in 7th grade. The 13 Under State tournament is going to be a very good.

Yes, there are some good guards, but the difference in The Ville and the rest of the state is their inside presence. Georgetown Thunder, Louisville Rising Stars and a new team in Lexington all have a chance to beat The Ville in a one-game scenario, but they are definitely the team to beat.

I may stand corrected after looking at the 6th grade. There are some very talented kids in the 6th especially with the kids who stayed back this year(Prtwood,...etc), just not as many as the 7th. The 5th grade is very guard dominated to this point, but the big kids will show up sooner or later. I do know there is not a dominate big man in the 5th to this point. Does anyone know of a really good BIG in the 5th?

 

I think Johnson County can compete DII 7th with the addition of the other 2 kids. It will be interesting to see how Hall does in the 7th. I think he will compete very well.

The Ville has the better inside out game. Thats what makes The Ville, the team to beat. The Ville, is a load with Hatcher in the middle for sure. But...you could put Hatcher, on G=Town it would make them the team to beat, if you kept the guard play.

The best I have seen in 5th grade would be Drew McDonald. He plays for the NKY Hornets.. I would say he is about 5'8 or 5'9..He is pretty agile and has a nice shot...The kid is an overall good athlete.. Drew is also ranked nationally in golf for his age group...

I know, and your right the guard play matches well. I just think the guard play will be the difference. Because if, the G-Town guards get hot from the outside it will make it hard on The Ville. Yes,.. The Ville is stronger on the inside, but the Thunder's, guard play concerns me a bit.:thumb:

Braxton McFarland and I am hearing possibly Larry Morton (who played up with The Ville last year) may be on the new team in Lexington called Hoop Dreams. McFarland, though, has supposedly been advised to take a couple of weeks off after middle school due to injuries. If the Hoop Dreams team does indeed come together, they will have some good players and could be a factor.

In reference to some of the Ville, players 1st names. David Levitch, home schooled, and Tyler Wesley, Shelby East.

 

I agree... if the Hoop Dreams, team come to fruition McFarland and Morton, will make them very competitive. You, can't under estimate the Rising Star, they always give the Ville, a close game.

 

The 13 under state will be a barn burner and worth the price of admission.
