I think the primary negative impact of the six class system is not the two additional classes, but the district playoffs. I agree with many on this board who think playing outside of your district during the first round or two of the playoffs is a better option. However, this subject has been beat to death and IMO it doesn’t matter how many or few classes there are or if public schools are separated from private schools there will always be debate about the system. You can make some of the people happy all the time, and all the people happy some of the time, but you can never make high school football fans happy all of the time….

Who are the small 4A teams you're talking about? Dixie, Holmes and Scott (NKY) all wound up in 5A this year, I don't see how that wound up being better for them??

I'm going to predict that at least 9 of the 12 teams playing in this year's state championships will also be playing in next year's state championships. The only thing this class expansion has accomplished is to allow room for a little more of the cream to rise to the top.

It's a reasonable projection. Lone Oak won't make it back and Bowling Green will have a tough time doing so, given their personnel losses. The rest of the field will all have reasonable shots at it ... some of them better than that.

I would say on the East side Lex Cath will have a hard time coming back losing 33 seniors. Also I think LCA loses a pretty good group of Seniors as well?

I find it hard to see a negative. Also, the margins this year versus last year aren't that much different.

 

If the NKY region wins it every year in 5A, then the 5A teams know who they have to beat.

 

Look at 3A, Belfry and Russell owned 2A for several years and guess what, they did it in 3A as well.

 

Every class has it. The same teams are rising to the top year after year. The reason is good programs, not the class system.

At first I really did not like it, but the more the season went on I began to see some benefits. If I could change it I would like to see them just let the other 20 or so teams in the playoffs and call it what it basically is now, a single elimination tournament. Like I've said before: I just can't make sense of one 2A team not making the post season.

 

Adding all the teams would only add one week to the inter-district portion of the post-season.

My real problem with the 6 class system is having to be the best of 30 some teams and be declared a state champion?? The other states with 6 classes have 600, 800, 1000 teams. Let's just give everyone a trophy!!
