What makes for better football?

 

Play more and practice more. If you want to improve the quality of football in Kentucky you have to get more kids on the field and keep them out there getting better.

 

I promise you there has never been more excitement surrounding any KY football team than there is a Lone Oak right now. This has a possibility of bringing more kids to the game. Get them playing and keep them playing as long as possible.

 

It may seem 'watered' down to some cynical old farts but it is not to those out on the field. A State Semifinal is a State Semifinal and a State Championship is a State Championship.

The 6 Class System is a good thing for everyone involved......

I would not describe myself as a cynical old fart but I at first thought it was a little watered down when it was first implemented. I still do not believe in everyone should get a trophy and that there are lessons in both wining and losing.

 

However, as the year has progressed and watching what is going on in the divisions I like the new found spirit in some teams I see. Do not get me wrong I do not want 7A, 8A, or 9A and I do not especially like everyone in the playoffs their is merit in what you say about more kids playing as long as possible and a renewed spirit in some teams.

Did anyone play up into 6A? Everybody I have seen was 4A from last season and I assume was 6A number of students.

 

Madisonville-North Hopkins played up to 6A.

Six Classes will not change, however the format will..........four public school classes and two private school classes.

 

This will happen, not as soon as many will wish for, but will happen.

My question is this. How can two schools from the same city end up playing for the state championship? I agree they are the two best schools in 6A but I don't see how they would not have to play each other earlier in the playoffs being in the same city.

Because it means HUGE $$'s for the KHSAA in the finals!!

I'll do 6A.

 

Average margin of victory: 31.5.

 

Thats not really different from previous years. I think five out of the six games in the finals have the ability to end in 21 point margins.

BG/Central was the only one score game last year. I guess 4 was too many as well...

This is nothing out of the ordinary. I don't mind the 6A system...

First Round: Average Margin 35.6

Range 3-77

Median 34

 

Second Round: Average Margin 22

Range 3-35

Median 26.5

 

Third Round Average Margin 19

Range 1-34

Median 20

 

Fourth Round Average Margin 18.5

Range 3-34

 

When you speak of averages alone it will distort the argument there were some blowouts but there were also some competitive games. In the first round more than half the games were a 34 point or greater margin and only one was less than a TD. In the second round half the games were 29 or more points, but there was also a 3, 7 and 11 point game.

 

The average on the Semi Finals is particularly deceiving.

Tonight's semifinal scores show the negative impact of spreading the talented teams out over 6 classes instead of 4. One would think that when you get to the Final 4 in the state for a class that the majority of games would be competitive. Unfortunately, we're seeing blowouts.

 

That's too bad. If the state championship is the first really good competitive game in the playoffs, its a problem.

 

It has been like that for years anyway, for the most part. Look at the scores from previous years.

The only people that seem to have a problem with 6 classes are the people from already successful areas...NKY, Lexington & L'ville. So giving a chance to other people is not something most of them want......
