November 25, 200718 yr I always thought it was curiosity.... For those of you mad about the play calling, the team put up 50 points. I don't care how many overtimes were played that is a ton. The only sequence of play calling I didn't like was after the INT in the 2nd OT when they ran three straight times.
November 25, 200718 yr The thing that I copuldnt understand is that we are at the 50 at the end of regualtion and we run a draw play for a 1 yard gain and then have to use 1 of the 2 TO's we have left. I believe people are forgetting about this. Na, I don't think that is a bad call really. You only remember it because it didn't work. You will see that play called MANY times in the two minute offense and it turns out UK had just enough TO's.
November 25, 200718 yr To me the play of the game was when UK had the ball in regulation with enough time for about 3 plays and had a timeout. They elected to run the ball from around the 4 the first play and got stuffed. They ended up calling their last time out and it almost cost them the game as the snap was dropped then Burton was missed wide open in the endzone with one second left. KY could have thrown the ball on 1st down especially with a run pass option. They throw it away and there's enough time to run or throw on the next down. I also thought they got to conservative in the OT's. 3 down linemen with no blitz equals a ton of time to throw the ball. UK's defense kept them in the game the 2nd half though! I guess you could argue the turnover before the half then giving up the TD hurt pretty darn bad as far as backbreakers! It just seemed like KY was going through the motions the first half. The option to the short side of the field made me cringe thinking about the old Tim Couch option to the short side under Curry days! I'm proud of the Cats and everybody involved in the program. I really hoped the SR's would go out of Commonwealth with a win over UT. Tamme might go down as my favorite UK player ever or at least up there. I still don't think they give him the ball enough even though he had almost 10 catches for 100 plus. The first down catch on 3rd and 1 was amazing! I'm catching up, and this one says it all. The 3 man front stunk!!
November 25, 200718 yr The prevent offense is very much like the prevent defense - all it really does it prevent you from winning. ^:thumb:
November 25, 200718 yr Little had more yards going sideline to sideline than he did going up the field. I would have put in Locke and stayed with him. Looked to me like Locke and Brooks had a heated sideline chat...
November 25, 200718 yr after much thought, UK is better than what I gave them credit for, it was a great game. I even thought it was over after the int in second OT, but it is still the same ol' cats snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
November 25, 200718 yr Author Looked to me like Locke and Brooks had a heated sideline chat... Brooks had a good tongue lashing for him after Locke had run onto the field causing an illegal substitution penalty against the Cats late in regulation.
November 25, 200718 yr Brooks had a good tongue lashing for him after Locke had run onto the field causing an illegal substitution penalty against the Cats late in regulation. I saw that too, and it would have been the same thing if any other player had made that same mistake. I don't think there is anything to make of that particular confrontation. At least I hope not...
November 25, 200718 yr Brooks had a good tongue lashing for him after Locke had run onto the field causing an illegal substitution penalty against the Cats late in regulation. That and the attitude Locke brought back with him from that short trip to the field.
November 25, 200718 yr Author That and the attitude Locke brought back with him from that short trip to the field. You must have seen more than I did, because from what I saw it was pretty much a one sided conversation.
November 25, 200718 yr So if I understand the rules correctly, ALL RULES are out the window on the last play of an OT period??? Ripping a guy's head off with the facemask tackle now has no penalty? Yikes.
November 25, 200718 yr A nationally televised barnburner on Thanksgiving weekend can do nothing but help the recruiting cause.
