I know Shelby Valley is really good, but is Pikeville so bad that they cannot even compete with them?

Pikeville comes back and avenges an early season loss @ Valley. This game was played at a neutral site for these two teams, Betsy Layne. No real details just got the score sent to me via text from some very excited Panther fans. GO PANTHERS!!

Are you thinking maybe Hillard coming back for a couple of years, then Ben taking over as Hillard riding off into the sunset? This is kind of an intriguing possibility. I don't know how some of people around the program will feel about Be potentially leading the program after some of the difficulties he has had in the past.

It may have come across as a personal attack at Copley, but I assure you that is not what I had intended. I just feel like the Pikeville football program needs someone that has had a good deal of head coaching experience to lead it now. I think Copley will be a successful coach, but to this point he has not had the oportunity to prove himself. I would like to see someone step in that has already proven he knows how to win.

I always thought pretty highly of Coach Howell, playing under him for part of my high school career. I thought he did a great job calling plays for the offense, and I thought he did a great job as a teacher. He's listed as the OC for Tates Creek for this past season and even though the team went 2-9, they still averaged close to 18.5 ppg. I think he should at least get some consideration for the job. He would most certainly understand what he was getting himself into if he were to get the job.

Didn't think about that one but it makes sense, he put his name in during the last coaching search at PHS I believe. What has he been doing since he left Pikeville? Is he still coaching?

With Coach Jackson vacating the position earlier today, who are some potential candidates for the job? There are a couple of guys who will probably throw in their hat that are currently on staff at Pikeville in Chad Salyers and Michael Copley. Both are young and energetic guys who would work extremely hard to try and return Pikeville to their traditional prowess. But I think the real question is whether Pikeville will once again try and go outside and look for a potential coach as they did with Coach Jackson. Who are some coaches from across the state (or maybe even beyond) who would be interested in this job? Is there a specific mold or type of coach Pikeville should be looking for? I for one need some time to think it over, so I'll hang up and listen, then post what I come up with later.

Good luck Coach J wherever you go in the future. I know I had disagreed with some things you did in your tenure at Pikeville, but once I took a closer look I couldn't have been happier with the direction of the program and the way you took care of your players. I wish your stay at Pikeville could have lasted a little longer because I know you would have taken them back to the State Championship. Hopefully the next coach will have your passion and your convictions! Good Luck Coach!

As a former player and the brother of a player who played under Coach J and his staff, I would have to disagree with this statement.

I think coaching at Pikeville can be a blessing and a curse situation. When things go well, the entire town will be behind you and it can be an ideal place to coach high school football. But if things start going south even a little bit, people start talking, and things can start piling up quickly. If that starts happening things can become very difficult very soon. I think it could be equated to a Kentucky basketball type situation though on a much smaller scale.

I saw this too, but was reluctant to post it because of lack of proof. One of my parents is an employee at PHS and is actively involved in the athletics department. I called, and they had no idea about this as of yet. If I hear anything else I'll post it.

I believe this game was played at the East KY Expo Center in Pikeville, and neither team is likely at full strength yet because of football. This is why I cannot stand the All A Classic. There are maybe 4 or 5 that SHOULD be competing in the All A, but as I've learned in the past that is a different and very controversial path. Should be an interesting season in the district with Valley and Pikeville this year. Pikeville has something not many mountain teams have, a legitiment 6'8 - 6'9 center in Adams. He is only a junior this season, and has aparently made some great progress this off-season. He has some amazing potential to develop into a dominant high school player.

Pikevillle seems to be playing really really well right now, I'll take them because they are going to be very difficult to stop with their option offense and extremely agressive physical defense.

IMO Pikeville has just as much talent and potential as anyone in Class A this year. To this point they haven't been able to really put it all together, though it sounded like they played really really well last night. If they can put it all together they can definitely at least get to the title game. As long as Tim Honaker keeps being effective at the QB this team COULD go a long long way.

Not too sure, the radio guys never said a name or number on the player, but things got out of hand quickly and aparently one of the Paintsville kids went off.

Yes, if Raceland wins the game is @ Pikeville, if LCA wins the game is in Lexington.

Paintsville forced to punt, Pikeville gets the ball back at the Paintsville 38, and the Panthers begin to substitute their backups in the ballgame.

Paintsville player is having to be restrained, has his helmet off, and is trying to go after Pikeville players, things getting chippy as reality sets in for these Paintsville kids. Personal foul and the player has been ejected, this after a 6 yard loss on the play resulting in a 2nd and 32 for Paintsville.

Tim Honaker scrambles and scores, another 2 play drive for Pikeville, and they extend the lead even further. EP is good Pikeville 41 Paintsville 0 10:24 to play in the 3rd quarter.
