Wonder where the KHSAA got their numbers? I've been in both Knott Central and Perry Central's gyms, and I just can't see Perry's gym seating as many as Knott's. According to these numbers there's only about 100 difference in the two. Perry's gym looks closer to around 4,000 to 4,200 to me. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it appears to be.

And Pulaski's gym doesn't look like it holds anything close to 7,000. That's getting close to what EKU's gym holds.

Side note from the research: Apparently, St. Francis HS, which is smack in the middle of downtown Louisville, apparently has a 4,000-capacity gym. I'd be curious to know when was the last time it was filled up?

PC's gym has an open deck at one end zone where seats could be added, which is where that total capacity probably comes from -- not sure if they do this for regions, or if that just counts in SRO. It's still pretty darned big, though.

 

I do agree that KCC seems like there's a much bigger difference than PCC.

I was in Pulaski's gym last Saturday for AAU games. I never would have dreamed it seated that many. Allen Central's didn't look that big to me either.

When David Evans field house was opened in 1968 they said it would seat 3500 with plans for expansion to take it to 5000 but I guess the need never really arose to add a balcony. I also don't believe that it seats that many but it might. It's hard to believe that it is that old of a gym.

Ours dose not hold that many now. Several years ago the upper deck of the visitors side was removed to make way for classrooms and storage. I would say we can seat around 3,000 now. We are building a new high school and gym. I would say it will be the maximum side that the state allows now.

It occurred to me to do a count just to see how many of the gyms in the state I have been to, and the count is 76. There are probably some I'm counting that have been replaced/closed, but I would guess that balances against the road trips I'm forgetting, as well as gyms I do remember that are now closed.

I'm trying to recall for sure, but I don't think I've ever been through Owsley Co. before. I've always meant to explore that little pocket of counties at some point. I've been to probably 85 percent of the counties in Ky.

Pulaski's gym will not hold 7,000 as it is now. If they did erect bleachers on the platform maybe it could get up there. Still don't know if it would hold that many.

EKU list's capacity of Alumni Col. as 6,500 and I don't think PC is near that.
