I will agree with you, especially with the bench style seating that the majority of the HS use! I think that they use the butt size of a 1st grader when listing the seating numbers, instead of an adult or even a teenager!

I think they all use this measurement, high schools, rupp, commonwealth,etc.

Side note from the research: Apparently, St. Francis HS, which is smack in the middle of downtown Louisville, apparently has a 4,000-capacity gym. I'd be curious to know when was the last time it was filled up?

Our team played there back in the early 1980's (got beat by Fraley's boys by 5 on the night they honored all their former coaches. No chance that night:D).

I just can't for the life of me remember it being as big as people on here are saying it is. It doesn't appear to be nearly as large as Knott Central 5,000 seats. But maybe I'm having an optical illusion moment.

Isn't Clay County's gym built in the same style as Bell County's and Middlesboro's? Both those seat around 3,500, I think.

Bell's gym is smaller now because I think they took out some seats in the upper section.

 

If Clay seats 3,800, Harlan County has to seat 5,000.

I know P-Burg is listed at that number but no way it holds more than Pike County Central and possibly Shelby Valley.

I would assume they are numbers reported to the KHSAA by the schools.

I have been in most the gyms mentioned and Pulaski's gym is as big as advertised. If you were there at an AAU tourney all the bleachers were not pulled out. It was re-done about 10 years ago. IMHO it is one of the nicest.

Regionals are held at the RSEC...which isnt bad either

Two of the nicest and bigger gyms in our region are Knott County Central's and Perry County Central's.

 

Maybe someone from those schools can post some photos of them. Knott Central renovated their gym about 5 years ago.
