You might have passed through metropolitan Booneville (Pop. 140) and not been aware of it.

I have been in Henry's gym when it had 6000 in it. Not one seat empty and 10 deep on the ends. 1978 regional tournament with Shelby Co. and Charles Hurt. I believe St. Francis' gym is the old " Spectrum" or Males old gym where Griffith and Turner played.

I thought I read on a thread somewhere that Calloway County's gym was in The Fieldhouse range.

When David Evans field house was opened in 1968 they said it would seat 3500 with plans for expansion to take it to 5000 but I guess the need never really arose to add a balcony. I also don't believe that it seats that many but it might. It's hard to believe that it is that old of a gym.

 

According to the KHSAA Holmes seats 3000 while Conner is the biggest in the 9th at 3600. Cooper also lists 3000 as capacity.

Holmes gym is enormous. I would have never guessed it only sits 3000 people.

Have you been in The Fieldhouse, Marshall County, Harrison County, Hazard, Montgomery County or many gyms in the rest of Kentucky?

 

For the population base of NKy we really have some rather small gyms, while across the Commonwealth some areas have some outstanding HS gyms!

 

Baseball is the same way but in football, other than Trinity, St. X and Johnson Central nothing is as nice as what I have seen as Ryle, Cooper, Highlands, CovCath or Dixie.

How many does the Frankfort Convention Center seat? I know they have Christmas tournaments, host the 41st district tournament, state wrestling tournament and have college conference tournaments.

I would imagine most of the big gyms were built during the earlier days of county consolidation. The most likely time frame would be around 1970-1980. I believe Pulaski County opened their around 1975.
