Actually applications will not be accepted after Feb. 1. Everyone needs to quit arguing, the Madison Southern job is an attractive job, there are good kids there, they have a good administration, and it is one of the top paying jobs in the state. Madison Co. head coaches are taken care of. Good things are in Madison Southern's future...this I am positive about.

When Carter had talent he won. 9 wins and 10 win seasons. When he didn't ,he didn't, like most coaches.He was constantly giving money to kids that needed it(food, shoes , gloves,) or giving them rides home. In his tenure at Southern they never hired him an assistant at the school( finally got got Coach Brumley a transfer in this year). He was forced to find whatever he could at the county and community level.His feeder system was a joke ( Foley middle) 5 coaches in seven years. He finally had to put one of his assistants at the middle school so they would run his stuff. The Pee Wee program does there own thing, he has offered his playbooks to them, none has accepted, one team runs Madison Centrals offense.This past year they had players failing random drug tests(2 sr's) others Sr's left school early because they were afraid they would be chosen. Three sr's were busted in the parking lot with a cooler of beer during a school day. That may be what others are referring to a lack of leadership. If Carter has a fault it is a lack of player discipline. Players showed up late or not at all and still were allowed to play. They had Saturday offensive player meetings and there was never anymore than 5 players and never more than 3 Sr's. If Southern is ever going to be a consistent winner( which it never has been) alot of things need to be changed, besides just the head coach.

Bill Belicheck would have went 1-9 with this Southern team...if you can follow that thought! NO...Carter nor Brumley was the problem...both are established coaches and I have seen the coaching both gentleman do, it is top notch. You can not turn chicken crap into chicken salad, no matter how good of a chef you are!

 

In my experience kids are the reason coaches coach (atleast the good coaches) and one should never blame the kids for the bad situation of a program. This situation and more so this post reminds me of a great saying:

 

"Attitude Reflects Leadership"

 

I wish madison Southern all the best in their efforts to hire a good coach that fits their program. It sounds like they have a good coaching pool to make their decision from. The only recomendation I have is: put the kids first, who ever is the best fit for your kids is who you should hire. Don't hire because of politicts!

Do you know if the kids are still doing a weight program? If they wait to hire someone til then they will be way behind other teams that are already lifting.

Yes, David Brumley has already got the weight program going, and coach Carter has a weight lifting class that has about 15 kids in there lifting and doing agilities everyday.

Is there any truth to a rumor I heard about a KY college (maybe Georgetown) Defensive Coordinator (I think) applying for the Madison Southern position? Anybody heard any fresh rumors on this spot? I know that with it being a pretty well paid position there has to be some really interesting ones being thrown into the mix. I'm not from there but, have some interest in what happens. I live just outside that area. I would add that from what I know of Mark Scenters, he would be an excellent hire. He's been a big part of Madison Central for quite a while, and it would be nice to see a hard working assistant finally get his break. Wasn't he in the running for one of the Laurel jobs a few years ago??

 

The only other name that has come up on this site has been Brumley. From what I know, Brumley does have a strong football mind and seems to know his X's and O's, but I could understand the argument about starting fresh there.

Anyone heard anything else about this job?...seems to me Madison Southern's adminstration is dragging their feet a little hiring there new coach. The kids have been in the weightroom all winter and are getting stronger but interviews don't start until FEB 2. Spring ball could be a little difficult by waiting this long on a hire.

Heard Clay Co's coach is throwing his name around this job and others anyone else heard this?

Coach Stepp used to coach at Berea, so this is a logical choice. He would be a great choice. He has Clay competing and had Berea in the playoffs. He would win at Mad South

Tough district to win in behind Bell, Knox and Rock. Although he is no stranger to this district when Clay County was in it a few years ago.
