When Carter had talent he won. 9 wins and 10 win seasons. When he didn't ,he didn't, like most coaches.He was constantly giving money to kids that needed it(food, shoes , gloves,) or giving them rides home. In his tenure at Southern they never hired him an assistant at the school( finally got got Coach Brumley a transfer in this year). He was forced to find whatever he could at the county and community level.His feeder system was a joke ( Foley middle) 5 coaches in seven years. He finally had to put one of his assistants at the middle school so they would run his stuff. The Pee Wee program does there own thing, he has offered his playbooks to them, none has accepted, one team runs Madison Centrals offense.This past year they had players failing random drug tests(2 sr's) others Sr's left school early because they were afraid they would be chosen. Three sr's were busted in the parking lot with a cooler of beer during a school day. That may be what others are referring to a lack of leadership. If Carter has a fault it is a lack of player discipline. Players showed up late or not at all and still were allowed to play. They had Saturday offensive player meetings and there was never anymore than 5 players and never more than 3 Sr's. If Southern is ever going to be a consistent winner( which it never has been) alot of things need to be changed, besides just the head coach.

Is a coach who can teach the mindset that they can compete with the MT. VERNON (ROCKCASTLE) and BELL Co. Over the course of the last ten years there have been teams that were very capable of beating those teams, but the players and their parents don't believe that this can be accomplished...I say BULLHOCKEY. Madison Southern doesn't need better players, they just need a winning attitude, that is what will get this team competing for a regional title year in and year out. Look at Rockcastle, they were Bell's whipping boy for years, they finally beat Bell and the rest is history over the course of the last 15 that game has grown into a heated rivalry. As someone who has watched many of their games for the past ten years, this might have been the best staff they have had there, but the players just seemed like they had other priorities. I know that this is just a game and that life goes on after highschool, but what these kids need to realize is that this game is a stepping stone for what they will do the rest of there lives.

 

With the right hire they may get someone like that. Someone who has seen how both those programs were built.

When you are playin against a team with illegal equipment (spikes that are too long) on a illegal, unsafe surface (crappy field sprayed with fire truck) the score does not reflect the two teams that are playing!

I saw pretty much the same thing at another location. He was always complaining about "mountain football". Seems to me he has lost control of his team. MSHS should be able to do better.

How about a double transfer QB (Belfry-Pikeville-Belfry) played Pikeville 1 year and was playing at Belfry the next that while living in Belfry the entire time. Southern lost first year 10-7. Belfry graduated their entire offensive and defensive line from that year. The next year they were bigger and all Seniors except none of them were on the roster from the previous year.( Go figure) Two transfer running backs from W. Virginia. That's not cheating it's called recruiting

The QB you are talking about sat out a year when he transfered from Pikeville to Belfry. So that statement is not true.

 

All senior linemen that weren't on the previous years roster? You will have to name some names and produce those rosters. That is simply not true.

 

Same thing on the running backs, not true. The Caudill's bought a house in Belfry and moved there way prior to 2002. They lived about 20ft from the football field.

 

And about the 2002 playoffs. It rained continuously throughout the 2002 playoffs. Belfry played Leslie Co the week before in the rain and ruined the field, then it rained more during the week. Lots of muddy fields existed all over KY, including the next week when Belfry played Breathitt on that same field. There was a thread on here about all the bad field conditions during that stretch just a couple of weeks ago which confirms it. I can guarantee you, with 100% accuracy, that there were no fire trucks anywhere near that field and nothing was done to water it down. If it makes you feel better to believe that, so be it, but it is completely false.

Anybody heard anything more about possible hires?

I've been told that some of the assistant coaches have put in for it. Also, I know of one coach from a different school has applied. I won't name his name because of obvious reasons.

What is the latest on applicants?

Coach Scenters is a great coach and better person... he will be a highly successful head football coach and Madison Southern would be smart to get him now. He is one of the smartest, hardest working and most dedicated individuals in Kentucky high school football. What's better, is that he is focused on putting the kids first! We should all be well aware by now that the Hilton's and Larkey's focus on that mentality first which then breeds winning. We've all heard several rumors surrounding the situation at Southern and the former coach and kids... everyone needs to get past that and focus on getting a great hire regardless of the past. I wish Southern the best in their search and hope they hire Scenters.

I think Dave Brumley would be a good choice I know him and seen him coach and I think he would be a great Head Coach.
