http://www.kentuckybcibasketball.com is the site. Dave Clevinger is the guy doing the tournys. He's the same guy who has been doing the N.KY Sports of all Sorts tournys for the past few years. Dave and his wife provides a wonderful service to all of us looking to have our kids participate in something beneficial. I know for a fact that Dave will not turn any team away due to entry fees...he will make sure your team plays and in a safe and comfortable atmosphere.

They also dont check birth certificates!

KBA did have a couple of people involved in Kentucky AAU. I heard tonight they will be closing Jan. 1.

I wonder how this affects both the AAU state tournament and middle school state. I would think Hoops in Louisville would get the AAU state. They did some sanctioned AAU events last year. I wonder if the middle school state will die. KBA only did to make money.

I heard they checked some KY birth certificates in Memphis TN this past summer.

And that is "The Truth".

I havent been down there but have been itching to check it out. I have gotten several invites to the free sessions.

So what is next? Will somebody build another facility in Lexington like KBA that will hold some AAU tournaments?

I think Dave does a great job as well but the age limits should be enforced in these BCI events at certain grade levels. I know last year we took a group of 6th graders out there to play and ended up playing a team from Whitley Co who looked like men. Its okay if you have 1 -2 kids who have full beards and under arm hair because I know it happens but when you get 5-7 kids who are built like Sophomores and have facial/under arm hair playing in a 6th grade BCI tourney, personally I think its a JOKE !!! I thought, man these guys should win the AAU state tourney in Div 1.. cant wait to see them in Lexington. Uh, they never showed up in that tourney, I wonder why? Probably because they actualy check birth certs in AAU sanctioned events.

I'm not questioning your post, but I am questioning why anyone would cheat in a 6th grade tournament? :irked:

I've seen several posts in this thread alluding to some teams "perhaps" using older kids in AAU or BCI events, and I don't doubt that it happens, but why?

Eventually, the kids are going to have to adhere to KHSAA eligibility rules, and they'll have to play with their own grade, age, whatever. Does winning a sixth grade tournament really mean that much to some adults? :scared:

Again, I'm not doubting you or anyone who posted here that things like this happen. But maybe you guys who are closer to this level can tell me why people would do this. If you can clue me into their mindset, it'd be appreciated.

In a side note, I personally thought the best thing the KBA had going for it was location, in the central part of the state, right off New Circle.

KHSB1 or something like that was the name of a poster who always had an idea of stuff going on at the KBA. Maybe he can get on here and let us know for sure. Something like that would usually be in the Herald Leader as well.

Hmmmm! Let me put it together and I will give you the reason it closed later.

I worked there for seven years and for AAU for 14 years running tournaments.

I heard (totally unconfirmed) that another facility was either being planned or going to be opend in Lex sometime. If I find out any details, I will pass them along. Rumor has it it is a former UK player that is in the mix!

Hey Spindoc that's funny! Come down and see us some time.

You can count on it!

If a church group did buy it, expect it to go bye-bye as far as youth basketball and AAU events. I know Shirley Cunningham, the lawyer from Lexington who is in hot water with authorities over the phen-phen, was a part owner. I assume his troubles had something to do with a sale.

If basketball goes away, it will be disappointing. There is nothing in Central KY that compares. Of course, Louisville has kind of taken over in the state for AAU and youth basketball, with MidAmerica Sports Center and Hoops. A 3rd place -- called Basketball Academy -- just opened.

This is accurate.

Shirley Cunningham's legal issues forced this to happen.

I ask myself the same question. What do you get out of taking older kids to tournaments that you dominate. Its not like the games are even close. I am telling ya, that team from the Southern part of KY were all big physical kids and there is no way they were all 6th graders. It doesnt happen all the time but there are some coaches out there that all they care about is winning tournaments and at the end of the day all I gotta say is for them to look in the mirror.

It happens and the closer you get to nationals the more it happens. I have seen boys walking around with Their baby and were suppose to be 14 or 15. and they looked to be 18 or 19. Boy do not matur as girls do . These older boys are build well. It does happen! Then they go back to school and play in their age group.

I'll never forget going to 6th grade nationals and seeing a team with three kids over six feet tall. All three could get rim, and two of the three could throw down.

Unreal.
