If you know a few people, its not that hard to get a drivers license, birth certificate, and other documentation. I know of a least one player in soccer who has done that....do you think it doesn't happen in basketball?

I don't think KBA sponsors anything. I think they host the tournaments on a for-profit basis

To be honest. It was a for profit business like most businesses. You try to make money. Thats part of owning a business.

As far as sponsoring anything, trust me Rojas we gave to much away and I mean we took care of all the local high schools and the private school when they could not find a place to play or practice. Same goes for volleyball. Putting kids in leagues and camps giving scholarships who could not pay.

I could go on and on.

Bottom line, this is a shame. I hope they come up with a new facility somewhere in Lexington. This is a great central location for the state.

The best facility in Ky is Hoops in Louisville..They are putting on free tournaments until the end of the year..The place is awesome. If you haven't checked it out you need to...:thumb:

I have played at the KBA in Lexington several times, and doesnt even compare to the facility at HOOPS in Louisville!! This place has everything a gym needs!! It is awesome!! If you ha:dancingpave the chance go and check it out!!

Agree :thumb: We beat the Truth to win a tourney there last summer, had a blast, except the Super8 was a sorry spot to stay. I'm anxious to play at the one in Knott Co.

HOOPS is indeed an awesome facility, and I'm certainly not knocking the staff there when I say, the staff at the KBA will be sadly missed. Some of the finest youth basketball guys in the game. They made every trip worthwhile.

I'll miss you fellas. Hope to see you again real soon... :thumb:

Hoops is an awesome place. It takes alot to run those places. Pretty does not make money. You must keep it full every night and weekend. You can only give so many tournaments away free. You hope you make your money off of the concessions , pro shop etc. You still have to pay the referees, scorekeepers, janitors and the rent and lights do I need to go on. The overhead is unbelievable. Unless you have a 20 year contract with a major brand or a specific camp, I do not know why you would open a place like that. It takes almost three years before you start making any money. Louisville can support it if they can get Southern Indiana schools involved.

I know before I left the KBA we stared with no leagues. Before I left we had the best run youth leagues in the state. The largest mens leagues in the country. At least two national AAU events every year. It takes a while to grow this business as I am sure the Hoops people know. I hope the Hoops facility makes it. I am so glad to be out of it. It got to the point in Lexington was what can you do for me or what more can you give me free. There is a great oppurtunity for Hoops to take some of the tournaments that the KBA did and make them continue and prosper. The Middle School state tournaments were the best in the state. It is my understanding that the AAU state events will move to Louisville. This could hurt the Eastern KY numbers.

I look forward to the state AAU events being moved to Louisville in a way. Its about 20 minutes further for us here in NKY but sounds like a nice facility. I also think it would really stink if the EKY teams opted out due to travel.

The bolded statements can be said about most businesses. The other thing is, often time the perceptions are that because a business appears to be very busy they are making money hand over fist. Not always the case.

And/or need for power.

Let's keep in mind all the BGP Rules, in discussing this thread.

Couldn't of said it better!!!!

A business has a lot of overhead, electric, and staff and equipment. But I still think They made money ! ! !

I think I can assure you we made no money. We paid our staff and the bills.

Because if we did we would of not run Mens Leagues. When your light bills and heat bills run around 9,000 a month, you know what I mean.
