KBA - Lexington sold

Featured Replies

I think Dave does a great job as well but the age limits should be enforced in these BCI events at certain grade levels. I know last year we took a group of 6th graders out there to play and ended up playing a team from Whitley Co who looked like men. Its okay if you have 1 -2 kids who have full beards and under arm hair because I know it happens but when you get 5-7 kids who are built like Sophomores and have facial/under arm hair playing in a 6th grade BCI tourney, personally I think its a JOKE !!! I thought, man these guys should win the AAU state tourney in Div 1.. cant wait to see them in Lexington. Uh, they never showed up in that tourney, I wonder why? Probably because they actualy check birth certs in AAU sanctioned events.

I know the kids and coaches on this team. They were the correct age. Take your whipping and go home. Your insinuations are unfounded.

Let me explain about the original BCI if you didn't know. Dave Clevenger ran the first BCI tournament at the KBA in 2003. It stood for Basketball Congress International. http://www.bcibasketball.org/. So Mr Clevenger did not like to pay the fees you have to pay for memberships like AAU so he got away from it. The original BCI is from Arizona. Some of the people noticed some did not. So he kept the same format and called Basketball Championship Invitationals kind of hokey if it works it works and the basketball junkies did not notice. All my time at the KBA all I would here is they never check kids ages. They just kinda want your money. I cannot tell you how many calls I recieved at the AAU office asking us to do something. What could we do. By all means AAU has its problems but not on the scale as the BCI since it changed. People just need a place to play. You have a choice.

I really dont have a problem with it because we put our kids in the tournaments to compete and get better. It is sometimes comical though. If we play a much bigger, older team then so be it. It will only make em better !!!!

Several teams that I have heard about play a age group up so they can have stiffer competition.

The schedule below was posted on the KBA website. Can anyone confirm the location for next year's state AAU tournaments? Thanks

I cannot say for sure, but most likely, if the KBA has been sold, they can still have at least some of these tournaments here in Lexington. Many cities use HS facilities (like Lexington used to for the HS state), which is better (IMO). You have seperate facilities and more space.

I have heard that the deal between the church group and the KBA fell through and the KBA is still going to be opperational. This means that the middle school and AAU state tournaments will be played in Lexington.

I also heard that the deal fell through. I hope KBA continues to host the middle school state tournament. My duaughters team has participated the last two years. We made it further in the tourney this year by reaching the final four. I hope we can make it to the finals next year.

KBA hired back the refs. and have scheduled leagues. Word is there were other buyers/options after the church deal. Sounds like it still may change ownership, but at least remain as a basketball facility.

It is our favorite place to play. I hope it stays a basketball facility.
