What's up oldguy? I've noticed a few posts on here where you actually name "The Team from Fort Thomas". Did I miss something? BTW your post is dead on. It's a little odd for me since most of my older brothers attended CCH but my kids go to Highlands. Always makes for an interesting Thanksgiving.

HHS, like CovCath/NDA, Beechwood, and NCC all have their ducks in a row, by being more than just "sport" schools. Look at the academics at these schools, all top notch, both on the field and in the classroom.

I'd like to say Covington Catholic pulls the upset, but Highlands appears to be too powerful

HHS is definitely in the drivers seat and CCH will have to play flawless to come away with a win. However last time these two teams met CCH running game was basically just beginning and HHS had their arsenal intact. This time HHS will have three headaches to deal with Furnish, Buckley, and Isler/receivers--not an easy task. Will be a great game and I take CCH by 4.

This is a very different Covington Catholic team than that which faced Highlands the first time, plus the Colonels have revenge on their side. I feel a BIG upset brewing in NKY.

CCH's passing game will be key. It will have to be better than it was against Dixie. I'd guess HHS will sell out to stop "Bucky" and Furnish and force CCH to the air.

Luck, I understand the name now after making a prediction like that!!! Highlands has a better passing game than Dixie. They really don't need to use it with their running game doing as well as it has. I hope Cov Cath over loads the box again and makes Highlands mix it up more than they did the last game. I think Highlands needs a game like this against Cov Cath and we are looking forward to it!!!

Looking forward to this game. This is the matchup I wanted. Its a heck of a lot more fun playing CovCath than it is playing Dixie, no disrespect meant towards Dixie. The Highlands CovCath rivalry is just something special.

 

No doubt that CovCath will be better with Buckley back. The question is: how much better. In the first match up, the game was not as close as the final score indicated. Birds had two tds called back and a couple of their players played pretty banged up. Don't ask me who and how they were injured as I don't provide that info. Plus we played at CovCath and CovCath had beaten us twice the year before. We played very tight.

 

I don't look for that to happen again this time.

 

They are at our house and the Birds are still out to avenge last year's playoff loss to the Colonels. A couple of the seniors had below average performances in last year's playoff loss to the Colonels and that's providing further motivation to perform better.

 

For my fellow Birds fans that have clamored for us to pass the ball more, I'm not sure you are going to see it this week. I'm sure Dale has looked at last game's tape about a zillion times and he surely has seen what I've seen: even with CovCath having 8 in the box, we ran the ball pretty well against them. Not sure how much more CovCath can do to stop the run than putting 8 in the box and that didn't work too well the last time.

 

While CovCath run defense has I'm sure improved since then, frankly our run blocking has improved also. People tend to forget that our O line was very inexperienced at the beginning of the season. Not the case anymore. So as CovCath's run defense has improved, so has our rushing game. And Cecil's ability to run the ball will continue to cause CovCath fits. There is nothing harder to defend than a running qb that can, when he has to, pass the ball. Add Hurtt and Conner into the mix and it makes it very hard to concentrate on Cecil. To that regards, our offense is much more diverse this year than last, because last year it was pretty much stop Kramer. This year, its stop Cecil, Hurtt and Conner and don't forget to play pass defense trying to do so, or else passes to Draper will kill you like it did in the first match up.

 

Should be a heck of a game, but I'm predicting a 14 or 17 point win for the Birds.

L/N, my friend, I agree with running the ball because we do have a very good running game but I also think that you need to take what the defense will give you. If the defense has 8 in the box, one safety and db's off the line, and we have an over balanced line on offense, throw the quick pass, look at the tight end in the middle...mix it up. This style of play will only open up the running game that much more!!!
