Torre says "No thanks"

For the record... ESPN is very legit.

My question to Torre is why didn't he just leave right after the season? You can't tell me that he left simply because the contract was less.

ESPN is legit sometimes. But when they're wrong they're afraid to admit it. Plus their coverage of Monday Night Football stinks.

I don't think Joe wanted a one year deal with a club option. He'd be right back in the same situation. Plus, the contract was incentive-laden and I'm sure he feels that after all of the playoffs and the 4 rings that he's above that type of contract.

A 1 year deal is a slap in the face to Mr. Torre

Good job Joe... tell them to shove it... most other teams would love to have you.

Yup and yup. I just hope they didn't tick Donnie Baseball off so much that he won't take the job. IF he doesn't get it, it better be Girardi...

The Yanks are trying to look like the good guy but they knew that Torre wouldn't come back for what they offered. The question is does Posada and Rivera etc leave? I think it depends on if Mattingly gets the job or not.

Torre deserved better than this. The Yankee brass knew he wouldn't accept an offer like that, but it was a way for them to save face in their dealings with a very respected man. He comes out on top in the public opinion polls imo, and the Yanks look like creeps.

:thumb::thumb: I agree and I can't say that I blame Torre at all. The man won 6 American League pennants and 4 W.S. Championships for the Yankees and was in the playoffs each year that he was at the helm along with 9 straight East Division titles as well. Imo he deserved a more secure deal and consideration, it wasn't about the money - to me it was about respect.

I also hope that they can get Mattingly or Girardi.

Just a sad day for this Yankees fan to see Torre go. Best of Luck Joe and thans for the memories. :ylsuper: (and no, I am not going to break out in song...)

Honestly I can understand why the felt like they needed to start looking in a different direction though. I like the Yanks, like Torre but they have underachieved. I wonder what pitching they will go after in the off season?

I agree.

Kudos to Torre, why resign for less when you know you aren't wanted by the some in the organization. Cutting his pay 2 mil is an insult, they paid Clemens 25mil for half of a season and he couldn't even cut it as the 3rd starter come October.

Yeah it was a joke, they knew he wasn't going to accept this offer.

I hope they all leave. I hope Jeter plays with 8 minor leaguers next season and they finish below Tampa Bay in the standing!
