I just taking it all in...absolutely amazing....

 

Watching the BEST college football teams this Saturday, there is something that Kentucky has successfully done in 5 football games, that the BEST teams struggled to do consistently this past Saturday and that is: BLOCK

 

Fundamentally, the Kentucky receivers and mainly the FULLBACK position along with the quickest offensive line I have seen play, is simply blocking extremely well.

 

It's amazing how one overlooked aspect of fundamentals is somewhat of a lost art...

 

Time, after time again, we cut down OLB and DE with our FB and our offensive lineman get great angles and seals on LB's...that has allowed our running game to explode...yes we are talented in the backfield...but don't you just love how we are blocking right now!

 

Maybe this is a boring statement, but don't underestimate the precision and execution of 10 guys without the football, it's why we are....where we are IMO.

 

 

A lot of times fundamentals are construed as boring. IE= Tim Duncan.

 

But the teams that are fundamentally sound week in and week out usually prevail or at least put themselves in a position to win.

The Cats where a little sluggish in the first half. But the 2nd half was a totally different story when UK gave up a total of 89 yards. And the majority of those were on the 2nd string after the game was clearly out of reach.

 

Basing teams abilities on 1 half alone, where would you rank LSU with there first half performance against Tulane? Im not trying to discredit what your saying cause I myself(a UK fan) dont think UK is the 8th best team in the nation, but I do feel we fit in the #10-#12 range.

 

Guess I'm still in shock and still just skiddish after so many years of disappppointments. I'm gonna pinch myself to make sure that I'm not dreaming that the Cats are #8.

Nice to see Kentucky consistent as #8... USF ahead of UK in this one. I have 0 problem with that as I feel both are very good teams.

Yes, and pigs might fly if they had wings. Louisville was the 9th ranked team in the country when the 'Cats upset them. Kentucky is responsible for knocking the Cards from the top 10 but they are not responsible for whatever happens afterwards. UK did not hire Coach K, Jurich did.

I am hoping the UK fans would stay humble. It is a long season and more important to be in the Top 10 in December instead of in early October.

 

I am unfortunately detecting some pretty cocky/confident posts by the Big Blue Nation and it is way to early to start that. This is not a deep Kentucky team and fighting through these upcoming SEC battles could take its toll on the Cats because an injury here and there could be devasting. Kentucky does not yet have depth.

 

I hope everyone is enjoying this great season so far, and doesn't set their level of expectation at an unrealistic level! It is a long road in the SEC!

OK.. so the 36 point victory over Kent St and the 28 point win over FAU aren't impressive.

 

How about a 15 point win over Elon, or 27 point win over UNC?

I counted the FAU game as impressive and I said the others were good wins but I wasn't impressed with the way that UK let Kent St. run all over them so no. I didn't see those other games so I couldn't tell you, and I never said anything about them being impressive so I don't see what your point is.

UK is overrated. I will give you that.

 

South Florida deserves their accolades and have a road win at Auburn and a home win over WVU. Not too shabby.

 

As for UK being #8...I love it. UK is getting some extra push in the form of Andre Woodson and his Heisman candidacy. Albeit a real longshot, he and UK are a fresh story and it will keep getting play as long as they keep winning.

However, you don't get to hang banners for where you are ranked at the end of September. The meat of the schedule lies ahead.

However, much of that meat comes in the form of home games.

If there was ever a year for UK to make hay in the SEC race...they have a great opportunity to be a threat in the East if they can win this game, Thursday night in Columbia.

Actually, I think depth is a reason why UK is playing well. They are deep in most positions and experience, everywhere but QB. They tapped a 4h string true frosh to pull one out of the fire in Fayetteville. They have 3 very solid receivers. The O-line is young but they are more athletic and have serviceable reserves. They have withstood the injury to Ricky Lumpkin on the DL...Micah Johnson is starting to really play well at the LB spot and the secondary has some depth.

Given Louisville's performance so far this year (not just Syracuse, but Middle Tennessee, too), I think a legitimate #8 team might have beaten Louisville by a bigger margin.

 

I got to ask you would you consider a legit #8 team right now? I mean Florida just lost to Auburn a team who is not to great this year. Texas just got beat by a team they were suppose to beat. Oklahoma lost to Colorado, South Carolina lost to LSU which is understandable, but they haven't really beaten anyone this year either...I think alot of people just have a hard time actually believe that UK at this point really might just be the #8 team in the country. People say UK dont deserve this ranking, but I mean look at the teams behind them, you really cant come up with a good argument at all for why really anyone of those teams would be more legit at #8 than UK...

I knew after all of the top teams losing this weekend UK would break into the top 10. I almost want to print and frame these rankings.

 

To me UK's always been pretty much a one sport school and in comparisson I kinda feel like this is how it'd be if Duke, Kansas or North Carolina were in the top 10. It just doesn't happen too often.
