They tapped a 4h string true frosh to pull one out of the fire in Fayetteville. They have 3 very solid receivers. The O-line is young but they are more athletic and have serviceable reserves. They have withstood the injury to Ricky Lumpkin on the DL...Micah Johnson is starting to really play well at the LB spot and the secondary has some depth. You make no mention of the offensive line.

October 1, 200718 yr The way the polls work, UK is deserving of #8 at this point...just like USF is deserving of #6. However, I think both are overrated. Oklahoma, Florida, Oregon...no way UK or USF would be favored in a game against those teams, IMO. There is a lot of parity in college football right now....after you get past USC and LSU, there are a lot of teams that can beat each other. And USC and LSU aren't unbeatable themselves. I could easily see them losing one or more games before the season is over. They have looked a little better than the rest up to this point though...Cal is knocking on the door, IMO, because that win @ Oregon was a good one. Ohio State and Wisconsin are still question marks to some degree until they play a big game. Whether UK is the 8th best team is irrelevant right now...they are deserving of it with the way the polls are set up, and they have the chance to prove their worth over the next 3 weeks. They could very well play good football during this stretch and end up 5-3 and unranked. It's going to be tough, but they have very realistic chances to win @ South Carolina and home against Florida. The LSU game is much tougher, but you'd be crazy to say UK has no chance. Honestly, I'll be happy if they are 6-2 after 8 games, and elated if they're 7-1. Hypothetically, beating an undefeated #1 team (LSU) would be a dream, but realistically, wins over South Carolina and Florida would put the Wildcats in great position to win the SEC East. I can't believe I'm even talking about UK winning the SEC East as something that's possible...while I still find it unlikely, there is a chance, which is more than we've had since I've been alive.

October 1, 200718 yr I just taking it all in...absolutely amazing.... Watching the BEST college football teams this Saturday, there is something that Kentucky has successfully done in 5 football games, that the BEST teams struggled to do consistently this past Saturday and that is: BLOCK Fundamentally, the Kentucky receivers and mainly the FULLBACK position along with the quickest offensive line I have seen play, is simply blocking extremely well. It's amazing how one overlooked aspect of fundamentals is somewhat of a lost art... Time, after time again, we cut down OLB and DE with our FB and our offensive lineman get great angles and seals on LB's...that has allowed our running game to explode...yes we are talented in the backfield...but don't you just love how we are blocking right now! Maybe this is a boring statement, but don't underestimate the precision and execution of 10 guys without the football, it's why we are....where we are IMO. :thumb:Goood post Nets. I am also guilty at times of just commenting on the "skill positions" players and big plays. Truth is w/o the basic fundamentals of football no offense of any kind works. No defensive scheme works without basic fundamentals. Basic fundamentals like Blocking, Tackling (not arm tackles like have seen some do :sssh:) WIN football games. Without them no offense/defense ever played will work. Goes back to one of my favorite sayings............."It's not about the X's and O's...It's about the Jimmy's and Joe's" .
