The Purples made short order of the 'Cats on Homecoming Night in Franklin! BGHS scored all of its ten TDs on the ground tonight. They did not need the passing game at all. And for anybody who thought the BGHS/Big Blue rivalry was withering on the vine...three players were injured by the hard hitting. Tempers flared briefly late in the first half, and, when we came in, the guy who took our tickets gave our ticket stubs to someone he knew from Franklin. Why? Because the winning number got $100 at halftime, and I was wearing my BGHS QB Club golf shirt! Oh well...if they needed to keep their precious $100 in house that bad, let them. Also, some F-S fans approached Mrs PH before the game and apologized for what they were about to do to our team. They were nice, but they said that Homecoming was guaranteeing that F-S was going to be at least a ten-point winner tonight...!! Some of our fans got too rowdy as well, when we were flagged for a face mask penalty when our tackler only got his shoulder pads...the play happened right in front of us. On top of that, our disbelieving fans were given a sideline warning! Just glad to get out of there with a tie for the longest win streak in the series (eight games)!

In the first qtr, junior Tevin Barksdale scored the first of his three rushing TDs on the night from 26 yards out with 7:46 left. Junior K Max Oldham booted the PAT, and the Purples were up 7-0. BGHS got the ball back very quickly and, only 12 seconds after the first score, senior Jared Carpenter ripped off a 20 yd run. Oldham's consecutive PAT streak of 36 at the beginning of his career came to an end as his attempt was blocked. Purples up 13-0. Big Blue answered with a 27 yd FG by junior K Justin Dyer to cut the lead to 13-3. With 3:59 left in the qtr, Trent Steelman tucked the ball and sailed to a score from 51 yards out. Oldham began another PAT streak, and BGHS led 20-3. Sophomore Lavance Anderson ran 55 yards for another BGHS TD. Oldham was true, and the Purples led 27-3. With only 24 seconds left in the qtr, F-S junior QB Courtney Dalcourt ran one in from 37 yards out. Dyer hit the PAT, and Big Blue closed the gap to 27-10.

The second qtr was punctuated by two short bursts for scores. Barksdale got his second TD on the night from four yards out at 7:59, and Steelman from two yards out at 1:26. Oldham banged home both PATs, and the Purples went into the half with a 41-10 lead.

The third qtr saw a couple of exciting runs by the Purples. Steelman scored his third rushing TD of the night from 16 yds out at 9:40, and Barksdale set sail on a 70 yd gem with 7:41 left. Again, Oldham booted the PATs, and the Purples had their running clock and an overwhelming 55-10 lead.

A couple of substitutes scored the final pts for the Purples. Freshman Taylor Nowell scored from two yards out at 7:27 left in the game, and freshman Chandler Sears scored on a QB sneak from three yds out with 0:57 left in the game. Sophomore Zack Williams booted both PATs, and that made the final BGHS 69, F-S 10.

BGHS will host Grayson County for a district contest next week.:D
