What about #32 for Knox Co. Jonathan Vaughn? This kid was very good and took anyone he wanted off the dribble when I was watching him. He looked like a JV player out there.

He was seen driving the bus out of Lexington j/k. :D

With the flu going around...I'm sure all of the teams had players under the weather. There will always be some kind of excuse--if we had been in their bracket etc. etc. Congrats and Good Luck to Scott and Christian Co.

Congrats to Scott Co for winning the State Championship today. This was their 6th game in 2 days. For some of those boys who play both 7th/8th and had 2 games on Friday night it was 8 games in 3 days. WOW !!

I have to say I am surprised they pulled it out with limited depth. Richardson just looks like he is going to be a great high school player. Portwood is tough on the block and Downey must have really got hot from 3pt land the rest of the way.

I am sure Rainman can give us the details on the road to the Championship. I am curious to know how the final game went with it being a 1 pt victory.

Makes the Birds feel a little better losing to the eventual State Champ and playing against 4 kids on the All Tourney Team. A great experience and cant wait to get back down there next year.

Thats funny Hoopdr. #54 may have been driving out of the lot as well. Good seeing you all down there and hopefully see you on Friday night in the Conference tourney finals.

Scott County only played 6 kids all day today and 1 was used only when other kids were in foul trouble. They survived Wayne County. They were down by 15 with a minute to go in the 3rd quarter, then scored the final 6 of the third to get back in it. Downey hit a 3 with 4 seconds left to send it to OT and SC scored the only three points of overtime.

In the semifinals, Scott County led by 10 after 3, but Russell County played them tough and #24 - don't know his name - scored 11 in the fourth and made a great bounce pass to open teammate under the goal to produce the game tying layup with one second left that sent that game to OT. Again, Scott County was good in OT, outscoring Russell County 11-2.

In the finals, SC jumped on top 14-8 thanks for the shooting of Downey, then Christian went on a 15-1 over the end of the 1st half and beginning of second to go up 23-15. Page led the comeback with 2 straight 3's and nine points in the third quarter. Downey added two 3's in the quarter as SC led going to the 4th. SC led 43-32 with about 2 minutes left and almost fell apart at the seams. Missed layup, 4 missed FT's, dumb fouls and a couple of turnovers later, Christian County had a desparation shot at the buzzer that missed - SC 46, Christian County 45.

Richardson was the MVP with Portwood and Downey making the all tournament team. In my mind, it was a tossup between Richardson and Portwood for MVP. Page and Gaines could have easily been on the all tournament team as well.

I think my exact quote last week was while Richardson and Portwood are really good, it will come down to how Page and Downey shoot the ball. Downey and Page (who was 10 of 11 on Saturday from 3's) combined for about 30-35 3's on the weekend.

I really do wish that South Laurel would have been at full strength...........After watching all of these teams, I have no doubt that South Laurel would have won this tournament...........but then again I am a little bit bias, ;)

What happened to Barnett and Sanders?

Final Game

SC 46 Christian 45

SC 29-0 (16-0)- Quin Richardson 14, Dylan Portwood 5, Tyler Page 12, Austin Downey 15

Since Monday this is these kids 12th Game, quite impressive!

Congrats to Scott County. Russell County just couldn't pull off the upset in the semi's but I'm proud of the kids. They played their butts off to get there.

What happened to Barnett and Sanders?

Barnett suffered a severe ankle sprain last week in a regular season game and Sanders had a broken ankle right before Christmas and just got his cast off. Barnett is the starting center and Sanders the point.

And there are people that complain about the Sweet 16 having so many games in so few days. These are 7th grade kids and playing a ton of basketball. Those boys must have some major stamina.

When I saw them play I thought they were lacking a solid post and point, so this makes since, did South Laurel play Wayne in the regular season. IMO the big boy from Wayne made the single biggest impact in the tournament, he was inside and out and could handle the ball....just not sure how much he is going to grow to make an impact on down the line.

Gryche11 is Highlands bringing down their 8th grade team next weekend?

St. Joe's Cold Spring 8th Graders will be down there.

Everyone I talked with said Scott was the best and deserved it! I'm just asking if there was that big of a discrepency in fouls called in the last 4 games? Each of them blamed their own team for losing but mentioned the ratio of fouls in their particular game. It is probably coincidence or maybe Scott County attacks the basket and just draws more fouls. I am only asking if there was a large difference in fouls called in the last 3-4 games or if it just seemed that way? If so, why do you think that occured? You seem to know alot about Scott County... was there a large foul differential?

I am familiar with the talent Scott has and it doesn't suprise me at all that they won, please don't feel as though anyone is taking away from their accomplishment. One other thing, to win 2 of the last 3 in overtime shows great character and a championship caliber mental approach by the players and coaching staff.

There was a foul discrepency; in somerset game, 31-5, if you were at the game you would have seen that Meece was the aggressor, 24 were second half fouls please also remember Meece was down 16 going into the fourth and had to foul to try to get back in the game , The Wayne County Game was 11-10 with Wayne having one more foul, Russell County game was 25-10...but again remember they were 10 down at some points and had to foul to get back in game 16 were 2nd half fouls. Christian County was 17-12 with 12 second half fouls (3 were T's) and they were down 9 at one point and again had to foul to get back in the game. Looking at the officials for any loss is just an excuse, trust me the KBA has never been a safe haven for any Scott County Team!
