A three strike rule? According to their school website athletic policy it is a 2 strike rule. The rumors on BGP stated that was the reason behind the other great student/athlete leaving the school, failing a class 2 consecutive times. Sounds like Summit View needs to look at their policy and look out for the BEST interest of ALL students in that school. It is a shame that students/athletes continue to fall victim to their policies. Miiddle school kids will be middle school kids regardless of where they attend school. Who is failing who? Hopefully the 3rd strike rule is just another RUMOR and whomever that young man is, please do not mention his name.

Summit View follows the policy they have listed. The policy is in the best interest of the "student" athletes. Society now a days wants everyone to have ump-teen chances. Hence a problematic society. Those that choose not to follow simple rules pay the consequences. That doesn't mean I don't feel for those involved.

spy2008...have you checked their policy out? I have read the policy and even had a copy...if your copy is 3 strikes, you must have a new an updated version. Rules are rules, how they are enforced & followed is the key. I do not agree with giving kids many, many chances, but the adults must remember that they are dealing with young students that have many factors impacting their daily lives that they have zero control over. The policy, if you are referring to the academic rule as I am, is more difficult than the KY High School State Athletic Associations eligibility requirements. Middle School is probably the most difficult decision making time in a kids life w/peer pressure, puberty, girls, boys, etc. and all of a sudden a kid loses the one item he/she feels most comfortable w/because of possibly one bad grade. As stated in earlier post, this is middle school. Who is failing who?

3BREDS2B you bring up some good points. I didn't realize that the high school requirements were less strict. One bad grade doesn't cause a kid to lose basketball, they have to have two offenses of the same class, I believe.

How can I read a copy of the high school rule?

Thanks for your perspective.....

Bylaw 5. Minimum Academic Requirement

Sec. 1) Proper Grade Level Requirement for Students in All School

Districts On the fi rst day of each school year, a student must be at his/her

proper grade level. To be considered to be at the proper grade

level, a student must have been enrolled during the previous

grading period, and must be on schedule to graduate on the fi rst

day of school. For the verifi cation of this provision, all course work,

including summer and correspondence work, must be complete by

the fi rst day of the school year for the student body.

a) Eligibility During First Year Following Initial Enrollment in Grade

Nine (9)

For a student in the ninth grade to be considered to be on

schedule to graduate, that student must have been promoted

from grade eight (8) to grade nine (9), and be in compliance

with all other bylaws.

b) Eligibility During Second Year Following Initial Enrollment in

Grade Nine (9)

For a student in the second year following initial enrollment

in grade nine (9) (normally grade 10) to be on schedule to

graduate, that student must have received twenty (20) percent

of the requirements of the school/district for graduation prior to

the fi rst day of the second year following initial enrollment in

grade nine (9), and be in compliance with all other bylaws.

c) Eligibility During Third Year Following Initial Enrollment in Grade

Nine (9)

For a student in the third year following initial enrollment in

grade nine (9) (normally grade 11) to be on schedule to graduate,

that student must have received forty-fi ve (45) percent of the

requirements of the school/district for graduation prior to the

first day of the third year following initial enrollment in grade

nine (9), and be in compliance with all other bylaws.

d) Eligibility During Fourth Year Following Initial Enrollment in

Grade Nine (9)

For a student in the fourth year following initial enrollment

in grade nine (9) (normally grade 12) to be on schedule to

graduate, that student must have received seventy (70) percent

of the requirements of the school/district for graduation prior

to the fi rst day of the fourth year following initial enrollment in

grade nine (9), and be in compliance with all other bylaws.

Sec. 2) One-time Reinstatement of Students Failing to Meet Normal

Progress Requirements

The eligibility of a student failing to meet the provisions of

subsections (a) through (d) above may be reinstated a maximum

of one time. This reinstatement is possible by the student passing

twenty-fi ve (25) percent of the requirements of the district for

graduation during the year he/she is ineligible. He/she, upon

reinstatement, shall remain eligible as long as he/she passes

twenty-fi ve (25) percent of the requirements of the district for

graduation during each subsequent year.

Sec. 3) Continual Progress During the School Year

On a weekly basis, a student shall also be passing (cumulatively

for the credit period) in at least four hours of instruction as defi ned

by Kentucky Board of Education regulations (of the six hours of

instruction required) or the equivalent of four hours of instruction

acceptable to graduation in order to be eligible to participate in

athletics during the subsequent week (Monday through Sunday

period) and through the next opportunity to examine grades in

this manner. On its membership form, each member school shall

designate the day of the week, approved and documented through

local policies, that the grades shall be examined for the studentathletes

within that school in order to make this determination.

Absent any other determination, this weekly check of grades shall

be conducted on each Friday of each grading period or on the last

day of classes preceding that particular Friday if no classes are

conducted on that particular Friday. No special tests or recitations

are to be given for the purpose of making the student eligible.

Sec. 4) Pre-Secondary School Students

Pre-secondary school students (grades 1-8) participating in

athletics representing a KHSAA member school shall be passing

in at least two-thirds of the subjects in which they are currently

enrolled in order to be eligible.

(Case situations related to this bylaw appear on pages 19 through

43 of this Handbook)

I can tell you word for word what happened and why the kid was kicked off the team. The kid had too many strikes against him, thats all there is to it. He's a good kid, and I know he is very sorry about what happened. He'll learn from this and next year he will be a stud trust me...

Honestly I think he needed this.. IMO

LTMS defeated Highlands in the state tournament last night 52-33. This was very disappointing as the Birds just didnt show up in Lexington. One of their starters had strep and couldnt make it but that was no excuse for the way they played. Too many kids not wanting to run the offense and do their own thing. I guess thats what you get when you have 3 Dads on the bench and not the Head Coach who was out of town this weekend.

With that said, hats off to LTMS who has a stud in Braxton McFarland. With bad knees and all he still managed 5 or 6 swats and even though he was held to 5 first half points must have had 20 in the 2nd half. They had a nice point guard as well and the rest of their kids played solid fundamental basketball.

I'd hate to see the Turnover chart in this one as the Birds just simply handed the ball to them several times and never got back on Defense resulting in many open layups. Just a bad game overall and one they need to put behind them.

They face a hungry Holmes squad this morning at 9:30am, a team that wants revenge for an earlier 20pt loss. I expect a lot of shirt tugging man-man. Then they jump in the van and head straight to Lexington for a game at 12:45 against Scott Co who features two of the better players in the state in Portwood and Richardson.

I didnt get a chance to see a lot of the game action at the 7th Grade State tourney as we had to jump in the car and head home but here are some things I did see.

LCA looked solid and they have a couple kids who look very mature for their grade. Knox Co also looked very good and they have a 6'4 kid who already looks 21. I counted maybe 3 other kids who looked much older than our boys. They jumped out on West Jessamine 30-10 at one point. I heard Bryan Station looked good from a buddy who walked over and watched some of their game. The game after ours with Shelby West vs. Elkhorn looked like a dandy. Shelby West had a boy that looked 17 went about 6'2 a buck 170, lean and cut with nice hops. I will say you get down to the State Tourney and your eyes open very wide at times.

Good luck to all the teams. If anyone can update me on the scores that woudl be great, I am wondering how the PC Wildcats did in their opener vs. Spencer Co and also how Meece did vs. Bracken Co. Good luck to all the teams today.

I'm not a fan of the whole 8th graders playing down or grade exception thing either qryche.. I hope the Birds come out strong tomorrow, they should handle Holmes with ease.

Anyone know the seeding?

Not sure but the way they have the games scheduled as far as who plays who is a joke. You have a cakewalk for the 1 seed to the final and the 3 seed ends up playing the 5 while the 4 plays the 6.

IMO the 3 seed should play the 6 and the 4 plays the 5.

Well, the 1 seed in general has a fairly easy walk meaning they have to win 1 game and its the winner of the 4/6 game. If they had to play the winner of the 4/5 game it might make it a little tougher especially in a division where there is maybe only one or two weak teams.

I just think mainly the 3 should play the 6 and the 4 plays the 5.

BTW PUtmeincoach, I expect to see the Twenhofel boys in the final.

The East has two very weak teams in CC Gold and St. Pius. Newport is improving but they lack a true point guard but who knows they may pull an upset in this tourney, they play very hard. The West division has more teams (7) but it looks like the top 3 are Twenhofel/Summit View/CC Purple. Weaker teams on that side look like Turkeyfoot/IHM/Blessed Sac/.

I agree, that's a pretty dumb set up...

I hope you're right.. If that's the case I hope to see you there.. :thumb:
