Middle School Basketball

Featured Replies

I was at the woodland and summit view 7th grade game saturday afternoon. The worst refs i ever seen do a game in my life. They didnt know when to call a foul an when not to. One ref would make a call then the other one would make a different one and neither one could deicde which call was correct. Three top players fouled out compared to woodland having maybe a team total of 12 fouls. I have been to alot of summit view games and they dont foul like that and the refs shouldnt decide a game but yesterday they did. I heard during the game that one of the refs was fired from doing elementary games dont kno how true that is but if so there is no way he should be doing middle school games let alone doing any games at all.

Who has clark moores played non conference other than Georgetown?

I look at their school's website and outside of the Bluegrass Conference (which includes Madison, Clark Middle, Conkwright, Bourbon, Estill, Powell and McNabb), they have played Georgetown, Berea (twice), Foley (twice) and West Jessamine. They must have played some more to get to 26-0, but I only saw these teams on the calendar. I know Georgetown's 8th is good, but not sure of anybody else.

Those other teams may have a combined win total of 10, I know that West Jessamine has only one three conference games this year.

Highlands defeated Newport 39-25 last night at home in front of a huge crowd. It was nice to have the High School band playing and a ton of the student body come out. Newport has improved a lot since the last time these two teams met when Highlands won by 20+. All 16 kids saw the floor for Highlands led by Karl Hinkle's 3 bombs from downtown. Witte had a good game knocking down a couple 3's and dishing out several nice assists. Nick True the 6'2 big fella also played well, he really has nice hands for a big kid should be interesting to see this kid develop. Doctors are saying he will grow to 6'9 and he just turned 12 two months ago.

Keep us posted on the Summit V / CC Purple game and Woodland game tomorrow fellas.

Any word on McClendon and TRMS as far as him still playing or ruled ineligible? I heard that there was a rule that after your 3rd game of the season you cannot add to your roster. This may eliminate all of this discussion and put it to bed.

Here are some pics from the Highlands/Newport game.

Any chatter this week leading up to the State Tourney? Whats up?

The brackets have been slightly modified. Jessie Clark from Lexington has been added to the field. They play the Christian Academy of Louisville Friday.

We are expecting a strong press and man-man. The Birds will try a couple of things as well, I think the key to this tournament is to come out aggressive. Cant expect to get many calls as its a tournament with 45 teams and on a time schedule.

I think our aggressiveness was the key to our success at the 6th grade state. We applied constant pressure in some form and changed up defenses. It seemed to me most of the teams weren't used to that type of AAU style pressure. It really took some of the big boys out of the game and forced the other teams into shots they weren't used to taking.

The good news is we have 6-8 kids who are used to that pressure and applying it. Now getting them to actually go do it and then getting the other 3-4 kids to be aggressive will be key.

There are some potential games that could be really good this weekend. I think the best game Friday is the LTMS vs Highlands game. The loser of that game is in a tough position. In the first round the best game is going to be the loser of the LTMS/Highlands game vs Scott Co. The second round offers some good games. I like the possible Shelby West vs Wayne Co. game, the possible S. Laurel vs Whitley Co. game, and the possible Clay Co. vs Pendleton Co. game. The 3rd round of the brackets is where things really get interesting. Meece (Somerset) could face Scott Co., S. Laurel/Whitley Co. winner could face Wayne Co./Shelby West winner, and Bryan Station could face Lincoln Co.

I can't wait until Friday!!

Anyone have any information about Spencer County or Clay County's 7th grade teams? Just wandering what types of teams they were?

If you go to the BCI websites and look up past results you can find the Clay Co team as winners in a couple of those tourneys. These were tourneys held down in the KNott Co. Complex and it looks like they defeated Hazard in one of those finals. They do look very big. Not sure on Spencer Co. If PC comes to play and they get contributions from the other 4 kids outside of Monroe they will do fine. Good Luck Tubbycat.
