Scott County should take the ship, however, who plays for Knox Co???

Scott County does have a very good team, but I am not so sure they can win the state for a couple of reasons.

1. The Bluegrass Conference tournament is all week next week. The 8th grade will play on 4 nights and the 7th on 2. If Scott County reaches the finals in both, Richardson and Portwood will have played 6 games before the state tournament. Scott County will not play the Friday play-in game unless both the 7th and 8th get upset.

2. Scott County is not very deep. Currently, they really only play 5 kids. The amount of games Saturday and Sunday (all in a one and done format) will make it tough.

With a good draw, they can go deep. I am just not sure they have enough to win it all. But, I am also not saying that can't.

The key is not necessarily Portwood and Richardson. They have 2 shooters -- Page and Downey -- on the wings. If they are shooting well (and Page normally shoots well at the KBA), they will be a tough out for someone.

As far as other teams, if both Dishman and Gover are playing for Meece, they will be tough for beat. Sanders make South Laurel a good school team as well. Madison Middle is tough as well. They should be playing Scott County in the championship of the Bluegrass Conference. Shelby West, with Hicks from The Ville, will be good as well. Plus, Bryan Station -- if Morton and Trigg -- are playing 7th for them will be good. And, don't count out other Lexington teams.

I am assuming they are current 6th graders and that is good news as the 6th grade class at HMS is lacking in any size at all. They have some very good guards and an extremely talented 5th grade class this year who will be 6th next year and most probably make the 7th grade team. Beau Hoge/Griffin Urlage and Jakey Whitford are a few I can see making that squad next year. In fact Beau Hoge could play 7th grade ball right now, he has a great handle, is aggressive and a very talented playmaker.

Names on those kids on the wolfpack? Do they attend CCMS?

I think Beau Hoge is a great player, however I don't think he is ready for 7th grade quite yet. He is a tremendous athlete, however 2 years makes a big difference. Again, this is not a shot at Beau. He is an incredible athlete.

Isn't his 5th grade AAU team playing up this year at SOAS (6th grade)? How has he done?

I coached him last spring as we let him and a couple of the other kids I mentioned play up with our boys in a league. The competition was decent and Beau really stood out in my eyes. I have seen plenty of kids play so I think I have a pretty good eye. He is tough as nails, really only 1 birth year younger than the kids and has really shined playing with the older kids. I dont know, maybe when he plays at the 5th grade level he has to do too much and gets defended differently. All I know is when he is playing with other good players he can hang. I honestly expect him to start 7th grade at Highlands next year as a 6th grader.

Highlands doesnt have as many games that week but they do have to play a very tenacious and athletic Two Rivers Middle School team on that Saturday morning which means they will be commuting home on Friday night and then back down on Sat. afternoon. Depth isnt a problem at Highlands but keeping fresh legs will be key for this tournament.

As far as SHS mentioning the Knox Co team and how tough the Stache kid is, why do you think he hasnt been picked up on any AAU teams if he is in the 7th grade and grabbing the rim? :sssh:

Go back in this thread a little and you can get the results. That tourney is done for this year.

As far as S. Laural goes, who else do they have outside of Sanders?

South Laurel's, Sanders will not play in the tournament. He is out for 3 to 4 more weeks rehabbing his ankle and leg. Very big loss for South, but their still a very solid team. South, will be a very competitive team with Radar, Sears, Byrd, Mitchell and company.

Sanders is a great player.... South will be competitive without him but I don't think they are a threat to win it.

I agree, Page is a good shooter and if he is on, watch out. I have not seen Downey.

I would definately put Bryan Station as a contender if Morton and Trigg are playing. LTMS should be tough with McFarland.

Meece has potential to do well in the tournament, but they also do not have depth. One of their better players has been acedemically ineligible for most of the year. If he has his grades up by next week it would be a big plus for Meece.

In addition, Calloway Co., Christian Co. Clay Co., Royal Spring, Scott Co., South Laurel, and Wayne Co. will play beginning Saturday morning in the bracket play…these teams may not get their guaranteed 2 games, however.

Does anyone have any info on LTMS 7th? I know they have Braxton McFarland who most of the Highlands boys have faced before when playing the Thunder.

Just a quick note - If you haven't seen Braxton play yet this year, you will like his improved game. He has gotten a lot better. When he wants to, he can dominate a game. When the Thunder played The Ville a month or so ago, Braxton was the best player on the court in the first half and if you know the 2 rosters, you know that is saying a lot.

Plus dunking the ball two handed easily.:scared:

Is he playing guard on his middle school team?

SHS Future,

You guys should not have any problems.

Bracken is a very nice steady club. I think they have some good players in Ray, Riggs and Crawford. There probably is a Hamilton or Cooper in the bunch also j/k :D They are solid and will play hard and aggressive till the final horn.

Well, he will be the focal point of how we defend that is for sure. The boys will accept the challenge and leave it all on the floor. Highlands got Dupont the point guard back today and my son said he didnt miss a beat with his dribbling and shooting. Birds will be taking 12 kids down next week and all have logged quality minutes this season. If they play as a team and convert shots as well as not let McFarland get 25+ I think they can win.

I sure hope whatever the outcome the Birds get a game on Saturday that is after 1pm. They have to face McClendon and the rest of the TRMS boys that morning.

Isn't his 5th grade AAU team playing up this year at SOAS (6th grade)? How has he done?

They did play up. They finished 3 - 7 in the regular season, but made a run in the tournament and ended up finishing 4th.
