Middle School Basketball

Sayre was oustanding, 3 of their starters are probable starters for the Central Kentucky Warriors, Cunningham, Green, and Johnson. Johnson is about 6'1" and we had alot of trouble finding an answer for him. We pressed almost the entire time all week and our kids were worn out, as well as their coach. We could not make a perimiter shot, they jumped out early and it was over. AND they were the better team.

Thank all of you guys for the compliments and support..... I am still worn out today, and I'm sure the kids are. I was extremely proud of how hard they played... it made 3-4 years of hard work seem worth it. Thanks again!!... the friendships i've built through basketball are terrific, good luck to everyone the rest of the season.

The roster for Sayre is impessive. IMO a true big man is all the Bulldogs are missing, however, your guard play is tough for the middle school and AAU level. Good luck at the state AAU tournament.

Gray 7th grade defeated Connor 50 to 40. Gray jumped out to an early 9-2 lead that Conner was able to close to 28-22 at half. Start of the second saw Gray extend their lead to 33-22. However Conner made their usual run to make it a 6 point game late. Gray's free throw shooting down the stretch iced the game. Conner played well despite missing Blake Maines for the game. Gray was lead by Drew Mays with 24 and Travis Pavy with 12.

Congrats to SouthernKYHoops and the Clinton Co/Albany Bulldogs.

Hard work is always rewarded.:thumb:

The KBA has 45 teams posted for the 7th grade state tournament. Who are some of the better teams and what school do some of the better players from AAU play for.

Example:

Meece (Somerset)- Gover, Dishman

South Laurel- Sanders

Pendleton Co.- Monroe, Strong

LTMS- McFarland

Scott Co.-Portwood, Richardson,Page, Gaines

Royal Springs- Diaw

Brian Station- Morton

McNabb-Prewitt

Beaumont-Adu-Peasah

West Shelby-Hicks

Sharp MS struggled in their first game in about 10 days as they beat Newport 33-26 tonight in Falmouth. The game was a bit sluggish and you could tell that PC had not played in awhile. Newport played hard and battled all night.

Sharp was led by Monroe with 11 points and the Appleman kid added 6. Several players scored a bucket tonight for Sharp! Sharp improved to 19-6 on the season and had 3 games canceled last week due to weather.

I am not very up on 7th grade basketball, what about Knox Central and a kid that they have. My friends at Wayne and Somerset rave about this team and player.

Highlands easily improved to 22-6 on the year beating Campbell Co. Gold by 30+ last night. It was nice to see a new starting 5 out there as some of the boys that give them a spark off the bench got the nod. Karl "Big Show" Hinkle was instant offense all 4'11 of him as he drained shots from all over the floor. The Birds are clicking and got even better news this week learning Colin Dupont their starting point guard returns on Friday to action. He has been itching the past 4 weeks and has a very nice lefthanded jumper now.

Next up for the Birds will be Newport at home on Thursday. Next Tues vs. St. Pius then they round off the season with TRMS on Sat morning the 9th.

Highlands is officially entering the Middle School State tourney today so hopefully they havent capped it off.

I have seen Mays play with the Wolfpack. He can shoot the lights out. Very good win for Gray.

Big game tonight as the CC Purples travel to Twenhofel. In the first 7th grade matchup, Twenhofel won in overtime.

I have seen a number of references the last couple of days to individual team won/loss records this year; those records seem to include non league and tournament games. What are some of the 6th and 7th grade teams' league records? 7th Grade CC Purple is 7-5 in league play, 3 of their losses were close overtime losses and not included in the win column is 2 forfeits by one by Newport and St. Pius.

Highlands 7th conference record is 9-4. Non conference is 13- 2 which includes Boone Co schools/tournaments, etc.

Highlands has to defeat Newport and ST. Pius before facing Two Rivers who they already have defeated to round out league play. Early signs point to top seed going to Sharp in the East. Division 7th and 2nd seed should go to Highlands. The final game Highlands plays vs. Two Rivers will seal that. IF Highlands loses for some reason then they will probably have a coin toss for that 2nd seed spot. I expect Highlands and Sharp to play for the East Finals and whoever wins that will move on to face most likely Summit View or Twenhofel.

I don't believe Johnson is playing with the Warriors this year. Of course, that could change, but as of now, they are planning the year without him.

6th grade Purple should not have a problem with Twenhofel, winning last time by double digits. They did not have an answer for Schneider or Geiman. The only loss Purple had when Geiman's wrist was broke that they have not been able to avenge was to TRMS. They lost to them by 1 with Geiman in the lineup after losing by 20 without him. 6th grade tournament should come down to CC Purple and TRMS in the finals.

Do you know who, if anyone, he is playing with????

Sharp Middle School is the following on the season:

20-6--regular season record (Posted it was 19-6 earlier, was mistaken)

20-3--against 7th grade school teams (Losses to Bracken Co. first game of the season, CC-Purple in Harrison Co. tournament, and Summit View during conference play)

12-1 in Conference--only loss is to Summit View & is the only conference loss in 2 seasons
