Your position in the bracket will be determined by whether you win or lose your game, and your game number, for example, Winner 8 might play Loser 4.

In addition, Lewis County, Fleming County, McNabb, Wayne County, and Team Elliott will play beginning Saturday morning in the bracket play.

I don't know about this being rediculous or not. What I do know is this kid is a good player and kid and whoever is making the decisions for him should be concentrating on his academics and less on his game.

He's already been held back once. I don't see anyway this is helping the kid in the future.

Well I hate that the term "kicked off" is used. Yes he was told he was no longer eligible to play because of academic concerns. He is a really great kid and I wish him the best. But my concern is this, what message is being sent when a student is not eligible to play because of academic reasons at one school and then is pulled out of that school to play at another? Isn't this the message that sports comes before learning?

I also feel that if the conference follows the same rules as the Kentucky High schools do, how is this player allowed to transfer from one school to another 2/3's of the way through the season and still allowed to play? How is this fair to the kids that already play for TRMS? How is this fair to the teams in that division that now play TRMS and the dynamic of their team has changed and could affect the outcome of the standings? This truly could affect the outcomes for teams like Highlands and Sharp. I am not sure any of this should be allowed. It seems we have gotten away from the point of middle school basketball and all we are concerned about is winning the game.

Don't misunderstand me I like winning just as much as the next person but, not at the cost of education or a kid's happiness. It is just a game after all, this is not all there is in life.

I will also add that I think Summit View will still come out on top. They are a very talented team. Sure this changes the team's dynamic but, they still play well together and they will adjust and move on.

Again I wish this child the best. He truly is a great kid and a great player. I hope he has much success in the future in all areas!

Sure it would affect teams like HMS and Sharp but that isnt the biggest concern here as MSB is about development of skills and talent. But its an injustice to those kids at TRMS who bust their tail in practice and now get to watch a kid just join the team and I am sure get plenty more minutes than others. I know they already have 17 kids on their roster.

Not to mention "if" there are academic issues here with this kid and he is allowed to start at another school with a clean slate/eligibility that is a FARCE. Whoever allows this to happen should be ashamed and the parents of this child need to get his academics in order before they start dreaming of riches in the NBA which IMO are WAY OFF. Nice kid or not he needs to grow up and tackle his schoolwork and worry about playing ball 2nd. Im not saying 7th grade is an easy year academically because it isnt but priorities are all screwed up here if he is allowed to just join another team while not performing academically at another.

School doesnt get easier either so this hopefully wont be one of those kids who just fades off into the sunset like a few other excellent Middle School Ballers I have tracked the last couple years who arent even enrolled in school at this time.

Administrators, in general, look at student records prior to allowing a student to enroll in school to determine placement, eligibility, etc. From experience, most schools have a eligibility requirement regarding the number of classes one can fail, etc. I believe a student should not be kicked off a team if he/she is not performing up to the requirements. This student should be given the opportunity to improve and continue to be a part of the team. When his academics are up to par, participation should be allowed. This TEAM could possibly be the ONLY normal aspect of this students life. My question, did his previous school fail him? Are there other factors playing into his life that the school was not aware of and/or overlooked? To my knowledge this student was not failing 1/2 of his classes, only one. Obviously someone needs to take this kid under their wing, use basketball as a way to build the relationship, mentor him and coach him about life so that education becomes as valuable to him as basketball. I believe this will happen! The TRMS team will accept him due to friendships he has had with those kids while growing up in Covington.

My question is, why would he have to leave a school just because he failed one class or for that matter told he couldnt play. Eligibility rules state you have to fail 2 classes to be ineligable. It just doesnt add up. If he clearly only was failing one class then he should still be eligible to play. Im all about helping kids become better people and mentoring them and doing whatever I can to help a kid in need. Sending the wrong message by allowing a kid who is failing to leave one school and attend another this late in the season, not to mention put on a uniform is asonine. I truly hope this isnt the true story because if it is then the Administration at TRMS should be embarrassed and ashamed.

Last I checked, kids dont learn anything by given opportunities when they fail. You take things away from them that truly mean something and you make em earn them back. You wanna talk about life lessons, there is one of them.

Unfortunately many kids DO NOT have control over what ADULT decisions are made in their lives and they must go with the flow. A child must attend school in the district that one resides in. This student moved out of that district. The TRMS Administration has nothing to be ashamed of. I can assure you the principal/a former asst. hs coach, makes decisions based upon what is BEST for all kids. One must take the time to look into the situations on an individual basis and do what is best for that child. Unfortunately not all kids learn the same regarding getting an education and/or life lessons. Children of poverty, not indicating this young man is, as many of the kids are in Cov. value things differently than those in the middle class world. This is what many fail to see and believe. That is another post! As stated earlier, this young man will need someone to mentor him, guide him, and be that consistent positive in his life influencing him to take responsibility and developing the belief that getting an education is number one and basketball will be the guide by the side. He is a great kid, going through a few bumps in the road. Adults can't throw their hands up and start taking the only positive aspect from a young mans life and using the old iron fist method. Trust me, that does not work on all kids! That positive/basketball must be used as a tool to teach him! He will be successful in the classroom and outside.

Best first games look like Sayre vs. Elkhorn and Madison vs. Rose Hill

This young man was failing the same class two times in a row. He was having troubles in the class, that needed to be addressed and the school was concerned about addressing the academic needs of the child and not the sports needs. Summit View has a tougher academic policy than most schools and I support them on it. A child's education is the most important and if you can't do well enough in the class room to pass then that should be the students focus. NOT SPORTS! I love that my child plays sports and fortunately he dose not stuggle at all in school but, if he did I would take him off the team myself and help him focus on his work.

This child is not a poor kid. He has more than I did as a kid. He was moved to TRMS so he could play baskbetball. If he does not play than I stand corrected but, if he plays it is sending the message that his academics come second. Again I am not knocking the child but, the administration and the adults involved in his life need to realize that reading and math are the more important skills in life, instead of the very tiny chance he might play basketball in the future and make big money.

I will not post again on this topic I have made my feelings really clear but, this is not fair to many involved and there is no justification for it. It is not fair to the children already playing at TRMS, it really is not fair to his team mates at Summit View that he has played and won with for the past year and a half and most of all it is not fair to the child. He has to much to lose with his education. But again I do wish him the best and hope he gets the help and "mentoring" he needs.

I must also say someone posted earlier "if" there were academic issues with this kid. There is no "if" there are issues. Don't try to blame Summit View for telling a kid he needs to focus on learning instead of sports!

Sayre vs. LTMS

Clinton County vs. Johnson Central

Sayre defeated Somerset in a game that went down to the final minute.

LTMS defeated Elliott County by 20+

Johnson Central defeated Lincoln County in a back and forth game.

Clinton County defeated Conner by 20+/-

Should be 3 great games and anyone truely could win it.

Let's focus on and get back to discussing Middle School Teams and not personal information, regarding players.

Twenhofel lost to Three Rivers today. McClendon played all four quarters..

Clinton Co. look really good against Conner. Put the game away early. Somerset fell short against a big Sayre team. I still believe that Somerset (Meece) has the best 6th grade team in the state if all their kids were eligible to play.:bunny:

Good luck to the Clinton Co. Bulldogs on their run for the title.

There has been a bunch of talk about eligibility issues on this board the last few days. The thing is only about one child each 3-4 years is good enough to play in the NBA out of Kentucky. I don't care if they win all kinds of state tourneys if you have to transfer or do anything else to be eligible then you shouldn't be worrying about playing basketball. Those middle school trophies or high school trophies won't help you make a living as you get older. An earlier poster blamed a kids failures on his teachers, if the kid is failing 2 classes he's got more to worry about than Middle School Basketball.

I was talking about the one jersey rule Somerset put in this year. I agree with you 100% about grades. If you cannot make the grades you shouldn't be allowed to play. That has hurt Meece's 7th grade team this year. A child needs to understand that what he does in the classroom is his future, not the hardwood.
