Highlands 7th grade smoked the Two Rivers Middle School (Holmes) team tonight 52-30 at home. Backcourt tandem PG Colin Dupont (16pts, 6asists, 3 steals) Bailey Witte (9pts, 3 assists, 2 steals) led the way against a very aggressive and deep Two Rivers Squad. Jumping out to a 16-8 lead after one period the Birds handled the press well and Dupont was the General on the floor tonight. Frontcourt scoring was led by Donovan McCoy with 8pts and 6+ rebounds and David Christian with 8pts and 5+ bounds. Halftime score was 28-18 as the Birds maintained their lead throughout. Highlands held their opponent to 4 points in the 4th period on tough man-man defense. This was a quality win against a very athletic/pressing team in Two Rivers. They go 12 deep with players and were constantly harrassing the Birds. Rounding the scoring out was Zac Carter with 5pts off the bench and a huge rejection off a fastbreak layup that turned into a change of possession.

Birds definitely go as their Point guard goes so hopefully Dupont can maintain consistency with scoring and dishing out assists. Fun to watch tonight as they handed it to the Holmes boys.

Heard from one of their coaches that they (Two Rivers) spanked the Camp. Co Purple team by 25pts recently. Can anyone confirm this?

Holmes returned the favor in the 8th grade game. They were close to 30 points up until the subs got it back down to 20. #44 for Holmes is huge. Who is he and how tall?

Don't forget How Old? ;)

Its hard to tell what you get with 8th grade as the same group from Highlands beat them last year and lost by 1pt over at their place as 7th graders. All of the sudden they turn up a team with a 6'4 kid who looks like he is 18 yrs old and a host of others.

HMS 8th grade team lacks a true point guard and do not have a lot of good ballhandlers at this point. They have some athletes but when you play Holmes you better have 3-4 kids who can handle it. I know Mike V is working very hard at correcting this and getting these kids prepared for the future though.

Meece Middle (Somerset) swept 3 games against Northern Middle (Pulaski Co.) tonight. The 6th grade won 43-20, the 7th grade won 60-36, and the 8th grade won 45-15. With the wins the 6th grade improved to 7-1, the 7th grade to 6-2, and the 8th grade to 8-3. Meece has had a great year so far against their rivals from Pulaski with the 7th and 8th grade football teams and all 3 basketball teams sweeping the Maroons! :thumb:

Highlands 7th handled Newport 7th on the road tonight 46-22. Dupont the point guard had another good game. Several kids got a lot of playing time tonight which was good. Newport had a couple nice players, the little point guard #11 had a nice handle.

Herndon is the kid's name and he is 6'4 I believe. I also heard he plays for the Tar Heels AAU team 14U. A friend of mine who has a boy that plays for Tar Heels 12U team and scrimmaged that 14U group informed me that this kid was thrown an alley oop in their game and flushed it easily.

Not sure of first name but Herndon is the kid's last name.

Who are the good teams in 6th grade in NKY? Camels purple is decent, their guard had a broken wrist until last week. Who else is good out there? I don't know anything about any Boone or Kenton Co. teams. Who are the players to watch?

We've been down this path before. I don't see anything changing with this policy either. It's unfortunate and IMO hurts both programs.

Definitely worth keeping the heat on the administration though.

Highlands 7th grade team was the real deal. I was very impressed by their strong running attack. Newport did manage to do better when they would attempt to press Highlands but Highlands just found away to get by them. Good coaching from what I saw too. So Highlands -- keep up the good work -- your entire team was well balanced.

Thanks for the props Killercats. Nice to meet you last night and tell the boy to keep working hard. He looks like he could get to be very tall.

Highlands 7th grade lost to Summit View 7th tonight 34-30. The Birds were playing their 4th game in 5 days and it looked like it. Numerous turnovers, 7 for 19 from the free throw line for the game and I would bet they shot 25% from the field. It was just not a good night for the Birds overall. Taking nothing away from Summit View as they have a couple really nice players in Mclendon and Swanson. The player of the game though IMO was #40 Huesman the little guard who buried a couple threes in the game and hit a big one with under a minute to play to put them up by 1pt I believe. Consistency seems to be an issue for the Birds here early in the season.

PC 7th Grade played 4 games in three days this past week.

All without the big fella Smith. Cats went out of conference and played Doubleheader at Augusta on Wednesday. Cats beat Augusta 7th grade by 30 without Harper, Monroe, Smith & Strong. They then played Augusta's 8th grade team and lost by 10.

Thursday night they hosted St. Pius and won by 31. Went on the road last night and defeated CC Gold by 34.

PC's 8th Grade picked up a big win last night on the road also!

Cats have Turkeyfoot at home on Monday and on the road Tuesday against Blessed Sacrament.

Wow, what would it have been with them? :scared:

Alot of games but I'm sure Highlands would have loved to have had Augusta/St. Pius and CC gold on the books this week as opposed to Conner(strong), Two Rivers(quick/aggressive), Summit View(well coached, 2 very good players). Geez, we should have just gone on and scheduled Twenhofel in there as well. Good day to rest today with the weather, I thought until my son told me they had AAU practice. :ylsuper:

Good luck vs. Turkeyfoot and Blessed Sac, Im sure you all wont need it. I expect PC to roll in these two games.
