August 15, 200719 yr Airlines are sort of like light beer, they all taste the same. Lufthansa left a favorable impression with me.
August 15, 200719 yr I mostly fly United because of the direct flight from Chicago to Hong Kong or Shanghai. I had to fly over on American this time because of the short notice. I have flown Delta, Northwest, Cathay Pacific, Shenzhen Airlines, Continetal, Southwest, US Air and Korean Air. Korean Air and Cathay Pacific by far the most classy and friendly. Can't tell much difference in the US based carriers. Having a flight crew with a good personality is about 50/50 on any of them.
August 15, 200719 yr Given my limited amounts of flying experience, when I was 16 and then about 5-6 years later on the spur of the moment this past spring. All I prefer is that my plane flies, and doesn't crash land.
August 15, 200719 yr Usually the cheaper flight as long as there are no conector flight inbetween. Southwest or Delta.
August 15, 200719 yr Speaking of issues flying....PH and I, when ever he recovers from everything, are wanting to fly to Washington State and see my parents. We were wondering how he would do this in a wheelchair. Do you or anyone else know how this is done? Just call the airlines and let them know and reserve one. Usually they preboard wheelchair passengers, depends on if you are at the gate when they board, but usually they are the last ones off the planes, this also depends if the person can walk to the door though. Wheelchair attendants are just like the skycaps, and usually the company who runs the skycaps at the airport runs the wheelchairs too, so tipping is appropriate, amount depends on how far they push you.
August 15, 200719 yr I'm suprised so many are picking Delta, I don't care for them much at all. I've enjoyed every United filght I've been on I aslo thought Northwestern was very good.

If you just have difficulty walking, a wheelchair attendant might be all you need. But if you have to be boarded with assistance, you may have to transfer to an aisle chair. You'll be boarded before other passengers, with the asistance of gate agents, red coats and/or other airport personnel. You'll then transfer, or be lifted into a seat. Also, if you have an electric wheelchair, special arrangements need to be made. These vary, depending on the type of power supply.

I know all about that I used to work at CVG as a SC for a bit, I have a problem at times with cold weather and had to go inside and work the wheelchair at times in winter, pay wasn't as good but I was working, LOL. Only thing was when they needed assistance I was one of the first people called for helping to lift those needing to get in and out of the isle chair. But the bottom line as you know, is call the airline well in advance, as well as just before your flight and tell them in detail what you need and any other necessary info. The most famous person I had to help was Evel Knievel, didn't know who he was until I had to get his name for the records, it was after one of his health issues as he didn't look so good.
August 15, 200719 yr About Southwest....you can check in 24 hours ahead of time...so that you can get an A in lieu of a B or C...with that show up whenever you want...sit wherever is available...most flights aren't all that long anyway...Southwest is primo. It used to bug me to have to find a place to print out the boarding pass but then I figured that I could check in online and then reprint the boarding pass at the airport. That made life better. The only problem with Southwest is that they don't fly everywhere. We were going to Las Vegas and my partner is an airline snob. It is American Airlines or nothing. He kidded me about flying Southwest. My fare was half the price of his and I got there on time. He was delayed and had a miserable flight. I have flown American Airlines all over the world, as well as United, and they are both too big to be efficient. But try to get a Southwest flight to Europe or Asia. I guess the trade-off of inefficiency is in return for worldwide, or small market, coverage.

If you get bumped from most major carriers, you can take walk right over to another carrier and trade your ticket. With Southwest, you can't do that. There are also other services you will find with the major carriers, that you won't find with S'West. They're okay for discount travel; but if I flew a lot, I would not consider them an option.
August 15, 200719 yr DL for me but only because they sign my checks. As far as wheel chair assignment goes, just dial the 800 number and explain you need a WC, also with PH's situation you may want to request bulkhead seating, should be no problem what so ever.
