July 29, 200719 yr He's clearly a dominating force on the mound, but IMO he's too much of a hot head to give him 20 million a year...
July 29, 200719 yr They can get a better teammate and a as good or better pitcher. Who exactly do you have in mind.
July 29, 200719 yr I don't really know, but there would have to be someone as good or better to throw money at. With another solid ace this team can contend.
July 29, 200719 yr Wow! your putting Dunn in Ryan Howard company?? 2005 Rookie of the year 2006 NL POY 2006 Silver Slugger If Dunn ever hits 58 Hrs and drives in 149 ever in a season there will be nothing but love from me Mr. Dunn, I know Ryan Howard. And believe me when I say sir, you are no Ryann Howard. You said striking out 1/3 of the time in the middle of the order was, umm, unacceptable. I was just (not so) subtly pointing out Howard does the same thing. Ryan Howard has had a great year and a half, although, time will tell if he'll be able to sustain that over a 3 or 4 year run (which your least favorite player has done). No, I'm not putting them on equal footing. Just saying....

No, I'm not putting them on equal footing. Just saying.... Granted SOs are very similar for these two. I have not drilled down into stats such as avg w/ RISP or OBA. 58 and 149 was about all had to see. So far Dunn hasn't approached those kind of numbers and Howard may not again as those are career year #s. And Howard may not have reached that pinnacle had been playing with the Reds, we just don't know. I will say the Reds as they are madeup now cannot succeed with that gaping hole in the middle of their lineup.
July 30, 200719 yr If we keep Dunn, then let's also keep Conine to platoon in left field. I believe Dunn is under 220 with four HR against leftys. If we can get any decent value, he's got to go!

July 30, 200719 yr They will be able to add one solid starter with the money from Milton's contract... Half of Milton's savings is going to BP on a long term deal. The other half would go to Dunn if they tender.
July 30, 200719 yr But we're talking about the type of Ace that could make this team an instant contender....I think they would throw some serious cash his way. There was a part of the story that statistically showed adding Santana from the Twins to the Reds while subtracting Dunn and it wouldn't improve the Reds because their offense would be so lacking.
July 30, 200719 yr Did you read the article? Yep, and I believe I was overly generous on his BA against leftys. ".206 The Reds could have tried to move Edwin to the Astros for Dan Wheeler freeing up a spot for Keppinger, but that time has passed.

Projections for this year are not too far off. These are the projections for this year. Dunn: 40 HR Howard: 43 HR Dunn: 105 RBI Howard: 129 RBI Dunn: .260 BA Howard: .273 BA Dunn: 96 Runs Scored Howard: 87 Runs Scored Howard has ground into more double plays, barely, walks and strike outs are almost identical. All in all, Dunn is pretty comparable to Mr. Howard. And if you think that the Phillies are going to dump him when his contract is up you're crazy. He'll make as much, if not more, than Dunn will.
July 30, 200719 yr Yep, and I believe I was overly generous on his BA against leftys. ".206 The Reds could have tried to move Edwin to the Astros for Dan Wheeler freeing up a spot for Keppinger, but that time has passed. Yeah, that Dan Wheeler is one of a kind.
