Amongst other issues, the SOs are just a killer. Striking out 1/3 of the time in the middle of the lineup is unacceptable.

Good article and makes a great argument to keep Dunn and it makes sense. But here's my only issue.

 

With some progress from the Reds' bullpen pitchers and by adding a good starter or two - say Bailey puts together a nice season, and the Reds add another starter in the offseason - pitching could improve by 60 runs.

 

How can you add a "good starter or two" financially and keep Dunn without raising the payroll?

 

I don't think they raise the payroll in the offseason. They'll keep Dunn to give Mackanin a shot at finishing the season strong and take the job fulltime, hope that Livingston and Dumatrait can step up and possibly add a retread starter in the offseason, after giving Dunn his $13 million. If that's what happens, things will only change for the better if the younger bullpen arms improve to save the starters.

 

I'm not against Dunn and like I've posted before, nobody should doubt his talent. But am I wrong to assume that the Reds can't afford to add "a good starter or two" and sign Dunn both without raising the payroll?

They will be able to add one solid starter with the money from Milton's contract...

Say the Reds trade Dunn, and use that money, coupled with the Milton cash, and throw the bank at Zambrano.....Would you guys be willing to part with Dunn if it meant adding an arm like Carlos'?

Which is what they would have available with Dunn and Milton off the books...I would love to see him in Cincy.

He's not a very good teammate obviously and thats a whole lot of jack for a small market team to pay someone that doesn't play everyday.
