July 20, 200719 yr This January I saw the Titan's coach while duck hunting and asked him about Couch. He had tried out for them. He shook his head when asked how Couch did and said "arm problems." He is one of my favorites and my dad asks about him all the time. But it doesn't look good. Stranger things have happened however.
July 20, 200719 yr What???? They're not comparable? If you think they are I've got a trade offer for you in Godot's Expansion League!   Just for the record though I don't think Couch would ever have been like Peyton but I think he could have been a productive starter for 10-15 seasons in a different environment.
July 20, 200719 yr Whether Couch can make a comeback or not is one thing, but NFL teams get pretty desperate and will try anything in desperate times, I mean in the past teams have let pro wrestlers try out, so if they deserve a look I believe Tim does too, if he truly wants it.
July 20, 200719 yr I think we've reached the point where his legacy will be "Tim Couch - the former first round draft pick who married a Playboy Playmate" as opposed to "Tim Couch - he threw for (insert yards here) and won (insert number here) games as a quarterback.
July 20, 200719 yr Do I hope he has it in him? Absolutely. Do I hope he gets a shot? Positively. Do I think it will happen, .. not likely. And I am and always have been a HUGE fan, but the odds are not in his favor. Even the most dyed in the wool true blue fans have to know this. If not, RP is right, at least he is still pursuing his dream.
July 20, 200719 yr See Peyton Manning 10 years ago. You either have it or you don't, Peyton had it, and still has it. TC didn't have it and still doesn't. I'm sorry. Put Peyton on the Cleveland Browns and Tim Couch with the Colts and Couch is the one with the super bowl ring and Peyton is the one who is out of the league. Couch had no supporting cast in Cleveland. Johnny Unitas couldnt have won with that team.

July 20, 200719 yr I don't know if Couch is able but, Atlanta is going to need a QB for the year is over. I wish him well but he's been out for a long time.
July 20, 200719 yr C'mon now. How many shoulder injuries take more than half a decade to heal? You must be counting in dog years. But to answer your question it sometimes several years for an injury to heal. Not only did he have the injury but it also required surgery which also makes the heaking process extended. Have you ever had a serious injury while playing sports? If so, I think you have had your answer to your question.
July 20, 200719 yr See Peyton Manning 10 years ago. You either have it or you don't, Peyton had it, and still has it. TC didn't have it and still doesn't. I'm sorry. You may be sorry and you IMO opinion are also wrong. What kind of QB do you think PM would have been if he played for the Browns as TC did. The top three QB's in the NFL would have a hard time playing under the same circumstances as Couch endured. Your statement that Couch never had "it" as you say is simply not true. If you know anything about football at all, (and I think you do) then I am sure you will agree that injuries have prevented him from reaching his full potential.
July 20, 200719 yr I have also read several times, particularly when he was with the Packers, he needed an attitude adjustment. Of course I HOPE that he can come back and be successful and wish the best of my luck but I just don't see it happening. As for the Norsemen idea- that would be great. Sometimes if you really wanna gfet into the league you have to do what it takes. If Tommy Maddux can go to the XFL and parlay into another NFL stint and Kurt Warner came from the AFL2 in Iowa for crying out loud to get a shot then Couch should give it a go. if he really loves the game then he will do what it takes to play the game. Simple as that. If he wants to be an NFL Quarterback again and means playing in Lexington, or the Arena League then he needs to do what he needs to do. If he really doesn't love it then he wll keep wasting teams time begging for a tryout. The best tryout is getting on the field in a game- even in the Arena Leagues.
July 20, 200719 yr And he would be in his prime if not for the injuries and the fact that he played for the worst line in NFL history. Even you can't deny that. Couch played for the Texans?
July 20, 200719 yr Yeah, I know. I don't think Couch was a washout ability wise though. I really feel like the combination of having no running game (except for half a season in 2002 when William Green was effective and Couch threw for 18 touchdowns in 14 games and the Browns made the playoffs), a primary receiver that would have been a number 3 on most teams, and an offensive line that allowed him to be sacked more than any other quarterback in the league kept him from fulfilling his promise. That promise might not have been as an All-Pro but his 59.8 Career Completion Percentage and 64 Touchdowns vs. 67 Interceptions under those circumstances aren't that bad of numbers. Remember Peyton had Marshall Faulk and Marvin Harrison on the Colts when he came into the league, Couch had Terry Kirby and Kevin Johnson. I think Couch would have been effective... but not all pro, as you said, if we gave him a good line and good supporting cast. He never in my mind, however, completely grasped how to read an NFL defense and had a knack for having the ball sail on him due to his funky throwing motion. He was no longer in an offense where he threw flanker screen and quick 10 yard slants all day long. Is that Couch's fault for not adjusting or Cleveland's fault for not having an offense like that? I dont know. Still though, that 2002 line was the best line (not saying much) since our return (until this season starts) and he was average.
July 20, 200719 yr What do you think? He wants to make a comeback. He said he's in better shape than he's ever been. 6'5" 245. That's about 20 more lbs than he went into the league with.Slim to none, unless a team is content with an expensive back-up. Being away from the game this long, doesn't equate to timing, delivering, game action, reading coverages. I saw an interview, where he said "I'm bored"....that was all I needed to hear.
