Thoughts and many prayers from West KY!

Stubborn, misunderstood, Trinity, LSU, football, blunt, warm, friendly, loyal and more often than not, right.

These are all words that come to mind when thinking about LSURock. An icon of BGP since before I started back in 2002. A man for straight talk, he always told it like he saw it. He never danced around topics or answers. If he had something to say, he would say it and many times he would incite debate with his words. Many a time I was convinced that he was half the reason that people joined the forum. Joining just for the chance to argue with an inflammatory poster.

 

I won’t lie. I had my trifles with him when I first joined. I thought he was too harsh many a time and even told him so on numerous occasions. No matter how much I disagreed with him though, I had to admit that he was usually right. I know many a Trinity poster who would often say to me their displeasure at how he carried himself. But as I got to know him I began to see more than just the façade that displayed.

 

I remember the night I met him back in 2004, ironically enough it wasn’t at a Trinity game and was completely by accident. During halftime at the St. X-Lexington Catholic game that year I saw The Guru standing on the sidelines talking to someone. I decided to go over to talk with The Guru for a bit about the game and his opinion on it. This particular game was a blowout by halftime (the score escapes me at the moment). When I walked up I heard this taller gentleman with the hat on say something along the lines of “There is just too big a gap between the boys at the top in 4A and the ones at the top in 3A,” to which I heard The Guru agree. Then I began to add my 2 cents worth to the conversation. After a few minutes The Guru looked at us and said, “Have you all not met before? PepRock meet LSURock.” I will admit to being a bit trepidatious at first as I knew well his reputation. But I was surprised at how friendly, outgoing and just how nice a guy he really was. I was, needless to say, floored. Nothing like I ever would have expected!

 

Well time went on and we began to talk here and there at the games, at halftime and so on. It was pretty nice for me actually. No one I knew seemed to know as much about the Rocks as he did. It always amazed me too. I knew some of his cousins (I grew up with one of them) and asked them about him one time. Their mom said to me “Oh he’s just a big teddy bear.” I also found out that not only did he never attend Trinity as a student. Meaning that his association with the Rocks was purely through the family. The dedication that this man showed to Trinity was nothing short of spectacular. My own username, PepRock01, indicates the school spirit that I had when there and still have to this day. But even when I was a student, my enthusiasm paled in comparison to that of LSURock.

 

This is a paltry tribute in my estimation, I could have done much better by him, but alas this is what came to mind. There is so much I want to say; I really wish I could recount how my opinion of LSURock changed over the years I came to know him. Of meeting him at the games and talking to him about just about everything Trinity Football related. The more time I spent getting to know him, the more I came to admire his loyalty to the Trinity Family. His unwavering support of the Rocks, unfaltering in even the toughest of situations, in 2003 when many Trinity fans were in shock over the 0-4 start he was a calming influence. He told us to persevere and the Rocks would right the ship. Sure enough they rattled off 11 wins in a row, 2 of which were over St.X (the second of which was the 17-14 thriller of a title game). He always backed what he believed in, much to the enjoyment of some and dismay of others.

 

The last time I saw LSURock was at the UL spring game just a month and a half ago. I was walking up the stair with the Brothers Ram (Ram95, RowdyRedRam, ram2003 and the non brother ram brother 02Ram54). As I was walking up the stairs I stumbled at one point and nearly fell, a hand reached out and grabbed mine to steady me. When I looked up, I saw LSURock sitting right there with an LSU hat on, enjoying the game. The Trinity sidelines wil not be the same without you there.

 

 

Goodbye LSURock. Trinity, BGP and St. Matthews are all a little less bright without you here.

RIP LSU, great guy I only knew here at BGP who I had some great moments with, I am saddened beyond words by this loss

I don't know where to start . I sat with LSU at the regional baseball games at Patterson and we stood together in the tunnel when my kid wasn't having a very good day. He could always make you feel better about any situation and fully realized what was going on in your head and instantly made you feel better.

To say he will be dearly missed is a sad understatement. It is really going to be hard to replace all that energy and charisma that he had. He had a spirit and drive for Trinity that was unequaled. Everyone is going to have to step up to fill those huge shoes .

My prayers and thoughts go out to his family as well.

Condolences from Nashville.

 

I went back and checked my Inbox, where LSURock and I had exchanges in the past about the MBA-Trinity series and other goings-on in high school football. He was a lively sort on the boards, but the private messages revealed a pretty good side of him as well, and he was a very knowledgeable person with a wealth of information.

 

R.I.P.

Sad news. I'm very sorry for those who were close to LSU. I hope that your pain will soon go away.

 

How old was LSU ? Was this sudden or did he have a history of heart problems ? Did he leave behind a wife and kids ?

 

Someone who was close to him please fill the rest of us in on this.

Extremely saddened to hear this... I absolutely loved the endless debates over college basketball... For all of you who have mentioned how trivial that is, you're absolutely right. My prayers will remain with his friends and family, and may he rest in peace.

Terrible news.

 

I only know a handful of BGPers personally, but after nearly two years of posting here I have come to regard the site and its "regulars" as kind of a community. Whether we're simply supporting our favorite teams on the sports threads or going at it in the P&R forum, you feel connected with each other; and news like this is like a punch in the gut.

 

RIP, Rock.

Great post and thoughts mcpapa. BGP is a family, especially with the more frequent posters. We can all go at it hot and heavy on any number of topics but when news like this comes out we are ALL ONE.

This is very sad news. My thoughts and condolences with his family and friends.

He didn't shirk controversy and he did not brook ambiguity. Nothing about him was halfway. He rankled a lot of us more than once, but you knew where he stood on an issue. Always foursquare behind LSU and Trinity. He and I tangled more than once on this board, and time to time I received pointed PMs from him. He was a one of a kind, a force, and he surely loved THS.

LSU and I have had our battles on BGP (most of them behind the scenes) and the battles were not always pretty. However, I always considered LSU a friend. In person LSU was warm, genuine, magnetic, and just a great guy to hang out with. LSU always treated me like we had been friends all of our lives. LSU always (almost always) gave me the T scoop (and he always knew the scoop too), he always invited me to his place whenever I visited Trinity, and he always told me exactly where to park and how to navigate the campus. Most of all, LSU was the single biggest T fan I knew.

 

Dave (LSU) was a great guy, a true fan, and I will miss him.

 

Rest in peace LSU.

 

What a great post. I said a prayer for LSURock tonight. The small disagreements over sports or politics do not take away from someone being a good person...in other words, LSURock is now in Heaven despite mixing it up with people like me on BGP. Nice to know you LSURock, sure you are in a better place...
