If he had 16 more chances with a runner on 3rd, like Vladdy, he'd have 11 more ribbies. If he had 11 more ribbies, we wouldn't be having this conversation. I realize his shoulders are broad, but to continue to heep more and more criticism on him is hilarious.

 

Do the runs he knocks in at "non-critical" times count less?

I'm not following what you're trying to say in the Vlad comparison. All I see is .370 vs .214 so I'm not sure where the 11 rbis come from.

 

Like it or not, situational hitting is important to wins and losses. To say he has done anything other than "fail" would lead one to question one's credibility.

Yes, all runs count and he is great at getting on base via walks and scoring runs. As I said previously, he is not doing what this team needs. They need clutch hitting because its very rare. He's "the man" so it has to be his job to be the clutch guy. The numbers above, again, show failure in doing what this team needs to win games.

 

Don't mistake this for saying "he's the reason they're bad." We know why they're bad. He just isn't coming close to doing what THIS team needs to do to overcome their other shortcomings WHEN you consider the portion of the payroll he takes and will be taking. Its a simple question of value. If I were in a fantasy league, he'd be one of my very first picks. Unfortunately, game to game situations are what matters and that's where he has come up short.

The 11 RBI came from the ratio (70%) of runners he has driven in from 3rd with less than two outs, extrapolated out had he had as many chances in that situation as Vladdy has had.

 

Dunn has NOT hit well with RISP in his career. No question. No argument.

You know what, if everyone else went 3 for 5, the Reds would be much better. They get paid to get on base, catch the ball, hit for average, drive in runs, throw strikes and yet, he can't do enough to please the masses, regardless of effort.

 

He is, what he is and many of the others, are below average MLB talent.

C. Unless Big Bob goes Steinbrenner with the budget, you MUST take into account one's portion of the payroll vs his ability to produce.

I've never said otherwise...Dunn has NOT been clutch in his career.

Payroll, is not often indicative of production but of ludicrous contracts, that increase or are back-loaded.

 

I don't buy, for one minute that Dunn's role is more vital, to the Reds success, than that of Ross, E-5, Griffey, Arroyo, Harang, Phillips, Freel, Hamilton....etc., they all have a job to do and that is, help the Reds win, in any manner.

 

If they're not on, they can't be driven in. With that said, yes he leaves a lot of runners on and that can be a direct result, of his K's....No one, would argue that point. With his K's, also there is productivity and RBI's but he won't/can't, in every situation....No MLB player will.

 

I use a term, that is "productive outs" and Dunn, without question needs more of these.

Adam Dunn is not going to hit for a high average...............ever, not gonna happen. He is just not that type of hitter. As others have said people have to be on base before one can drive them in, it is not all Dunn's fault. I think that there is enough blame to go around on this team. "You win as a team and you lose as a team". I do "cringe" everytime I see a fly ball or any ball hit to left when he is out there but I also do the same when I see a ball hit to 3rd base.

 

I have stated that I would entertain the thought on trading him "IF" you could get top of the line quality in return, no rehab projects :irked: .

 

I am like most everyone else on this board that are Reds fans in that I get frustrated and want solutions to this poor excuse of a team. I then realize that there is NO quick fix and just hope that this front office can bring a team back to Cincy that is what I call a "Reds" baseball team, it has been a while to say the least.

You must be watching a different E5 than the one we've seen since his return from the farm.
