February 14, 200719 yr I don't care how much you disagree with another poster, personal attacks will not be tolerated. This includes calling another poster CLUELESS!!! Some of you had better learn to grow up a bit and learn to post within the rules or you will be on the outside looking in very quickly.
February 14, 200719 yr The year Lofton was a Freshman, UK's Freshman class consisted of Rajon Rondo, Ramel Bradley, Randolph Morris, and Joe Crawford. It was also Sparks' first season, but he had been with the team for over a year. The one player that everyone keeps forgetting about is the Williams kid from West Virginia. He was the first to verbal and never panned out. At THAT time I had no problem with Rondo, Bradley, Morris and Crawford recruited ahead of Lofton. Williams was another story. It has all worked out in the long run for Lofton. I still don't think that he would have excelled at Kentucky with the Cats style of play.

February 15, 200719 yr Lofton would have never made it under Tubby. He would have been handcuffed and chained. He shoots some terrible shots, 2 or 3 down the stretch in the UK game that he missed and gave UK a chance. I think he is a great player but Tubby would not have let him have the freedom he does under Pearl.

I think he is a great player but Tubby would not have let him have the freedom he does under Pearl. That is what people dont realize! As I have been saying Sparks probably is the guy that really kept Lofton from being a Wildcat. But if Lofton was here, his freshman year he was not going to start. The starting lineup would have been this: PG: Rondo SG: Crawford SF: Azuibuike PF: Hayes C: Morris Then most likely Bradley would have been the first guard off the bench because freshman year Bradley most likely would have been the better defensive player because he is quicker than Lofton. So Lofton would have been the 2nd guard off the bench and who knows how much he would have got to play. So he would have no where near the numbers that he has now. Being at UT was the best thing that could have ever happened for him, so just be happy for him...
February 15, 200719 yr Actually, Lofton was recruited by Pitino, but Pitino told him not to play football his senior year, and Lofton wasn't going to do that.. so that was the end of that story. But I'm glad that he ended up where he did, because he would've been sitting on the bench for UK, whether we'd like to believe it or not, and he wouldn't be the outstanding, well-known player that he is today. Let's face it, yeah it would've been great to see him in the UK blue lighting other teams up for 3's like he does against Kentucky every meeting, but I'm glad that he's successful, and I think that's all that matters. And I think Chris is happy, and that matters more than anything.
February 15, 200719 yr I'm certaintly not going to call anyone out or get upset at anyone. But Lofton has nearly finished his 3rd year. Any discussion of what ifs with Kentucky or what Tubby should or shouldn't have done is over. Hindsight is always 20/20 and if Lofton had struggled, Tubby wouldn't have been second guessed. Continuing to debate or bash Tubby on this is almost like bashing Webber for calling the time out he didn't have against North Carolina. Whatever the case, it happened, it's in the past, we can move on. With that said, I know this message board is around to discuss and debate things and if I don't like it, there are other places I can go. I just wanted to give my two cents. : )
February 16, 200719 yr One other thing that is not mentioned or some do not know is that Tubby Smith was man enough to admit that he made a mistake in not taking Lofton. I heard OTS speak at a funciton in Maysville and he said that if he had it to do over again he would have pursued Lofton really hard. (There is that hindsight= 20/20 thing.) Some I am sure will take this and run with it as a Tubby Bashing oppurtunity, but OTS earned a lot of respect from me for admitting his mistake. I have said it before and will say it again, Lofton is getting a free education and playing basketball. What more could you ask for?
