Lofton discussion within this thread!!!

Featured Replies

I am not trying to step on people's toes, but every thread turns into Chris Lofton discussion and lengthy argumentation.

Instead of putting this discussion in with every other UK thread can we reserve this thread for debating Lofton and his recruitment with UK? It is cool if you want to debate it, and that is what this thread is for.

Just some background to get it started...

The year Lofton was a Freshman, UK's Freshman class consisted of Rajon Rondo, Ramel Bradley, Randolph Morris, and Joe Crawford. It was also Sparks' first season, but he had been with the team for over a year.

^ I really do not think you understood the meaning of the thread.

I am doing this to FILTER discussion, I cannot stand talking (or reading) about it. Just trying to throw the bait in a different pond.

More or less, quit griping about not recruiting Lofton in other threads. Do it here, please.

Good Idea Bugatti!!!! Here is a better idea GET OVER IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I personally am thrilled that Lofton has exceeded the expectations at the collegiate level of almost everyone outside of Mason County.

He was not rated highly by the supposed recruiting experts and has proven them wrong.

He was past over by Tubby, Rick, Coach K, and every other coach with the exception of UC. It wasn't even the present UT coach that recruited him.

I am thrilled that Lofton has met all of his success. I have heard he is a very nice young man.

I posted some on the matter since the past two losses, especially in the Florida thread. This is essentially my feeling on this:

I'm happy for Chris Lofton that he has done well. He comes out of Kentucky, and I think most of us from Kentucky want to see the state's prospects do well. But it has reached a level that it is very hard for me to cheer for Chris to do well because if he does, we have to endure days, weeks, months, etc. of "UK Supporters" going on about how he would/would've improved the team. I don't care what Chris could've done. I might have cared two years ago when he was a freshman and the decision to pass him over was fresh. But it has been THREE YEARS. There are other more pressing and more recent issues that are affecting this program, issues that have nothing to do with Chris Lofton. I think it makes a lot of Tubby bashers look good by comparison because at least they're focusing on things that the team is doing now, the coach they have now, problems that exist NOW, not a failure to evaluate a talent that many others also failed to evaluate correctly three years ago.

I don't blame Tubby or Rick for passing on Lofton. They signed much higher ranked kids. These things happen all the time. Don't forget the coach that did recruit Lofton got fired (lack of success recruiting played a big part). I think the issue is more acute with Cat fans since they have to face Lofton twice a season.

:thumb: Bugatti had a great idea. I would had liked to have seen Lofton at U.K. also but how many years has it been now? People get over it, he is not at U.K.. Bugatti you had a great idea here. Now if we could just get all the Tubby bashing on one thread.:D  There is a Tubby bashing thread on here this time though, just doesn't keep some from doing it on the other threads. That is their right to post what and where they want to though.:D

:thumb: Good post, I have a hard time pulling for him when the dreaded disgustuing color of orange team down south I75 plays U.K. but I do wish him sucsess in all other games.

UC passed as well. They offered and as he was waiting for UK a higher ranked "prospect" filled the spot. When they landed Grutza to play QB I thought it was a lock, but Huggs didn't think he could play D at a major level. Pitino, Huggs and Tubby all missed...

I hope Lofton scores a billion points and people on here get mad that others talk about him. We blew it and he reminds us about every time he steps on the floor. We don't deserve to live it down while he is still playing IMO. This is a great dead horse award because it keeps being brought up but it was such a bad screw up that it doesn't bother me.

Great idea putting it in here.

I agree at the time there was not room for Lofton with what Kentucky and Louisville both had comminging in. It is great to say we should have got him after the fact. Lofton was one heckuva player football and basketball at Mason County and I was fortunate to watch him when I was with Lloyd.

Another one that got away was Scott Draud from Highlands and had a terrific career at Vanderbilt. Every now and then one gets away. JD
