UK missed at least 6-10 un-contested 3's. How is that Florida's D?

Thats what I wondering. Because I got to ask him if he still thinks that a crowd really doesn't have an impact on how a opposing team plays, or doesn't give the home team more energy...

You can't blame one player for tonight's loss, and I admit Morris played well when he got the ball, but maybe he'd get the ball A LOT more if he'd ever move. It kills me to watch him insted of him moving to the ball, the ball has to be moved to him leading to turnovers, he's too lazy to get up and down the court.

It went really well, it sounded great actually!!!

Cats played Flordia much closer than I expected them to tonight. Can't be upset with the loss, considering the effort that was put forth. A normal shooting night and this would have been really interesting.

 

As far as the popular theme tonight of inserting Brewer into the normal old Lofton debate, just remember that accepting Brewer would also mean that one of the current JR's wouldn't have been at UK. Hindsite is nice, and Brewer would be a nice player to have, but I don't think that it is that cut and dry.

 

For what it is worth, per Rivals Brewer was a 4-star and ranked #7 at the SF position. Our JR class was Morris (5-star #2 C), Crawford (5-star #2 SG), Rondo (5-star #5 PG) and Bradley (3-star #21 SG). Taken either of those 4 over Brewer is not why UK is facing their current problems. It is the class before and after this class, that as left them with a lack of depth, especially in the post

 

If you still want to argue that we should have taken Brewer over Bradley based on rankings that everyone is so found of, I'll give you the following.

 

Bradley 14.0 pts, 4.3 rbs, 4.0 ast, 1.5 stl, .3 blk

Brewer 12.8 pts, 4.2 rbs, 3.4 ast, 1.8 stl, .3 blk

 

Turns out that they are very similar players. My point is that the recruitment (or lack thereof) regarding Brewer is not that major issue plaging the Cats. Towards the end of their junior years, you can make a case that Tubby should have taken Lofton or Brewer over Rondo, Crawford, and Bradley, however, at the time that the LOI were signed Tubby's decisions as to who to recruit had UK fans salivating.

 

The Lofton (and new Brewer) complaints would be much more valid if they were not in the same class as the one great class currently on campus.

He was a horrific player in college as well. Couldn't shoot from teh field or the foul line...could pass a little though.

The Cats missed a golden opportunity tonight. Poor free throw shooting and three point shooting hurt them.

However, I think the 16 point hole they dug themselves in the first ten minutes or so, hurt them.

It was imperative for them to get off to a good start and they didn't. I mentioned in the prediction thread, they would need a good shooting night and someone other than the big three for UK would have to score. That didn't materialize.

UK played really really hard. I thought they were as physical tonight as I can ever remember a UK team being. They did a great job in the post with Noah and Horford, and they outrebounded UF by 7.

With all that said, they lost a game in which the #1 team was ripe for the picking.

Florida's 3 point defense is the best in the conference, but UK missed some open shots. However, Florida is long on the wings with Noah and Brewer, and there is some intrepidation when you pull up to shoot.

Did Florida play bad? I wouldn't say bad, they have been better, but I thought UK really took it to them outside the first 10 minutesm but they had to work. UK's shooting woes helped Florida, because they were able to stay in their zone and drop practically 3 guys to the post to deny Morris. If UK could have just strung a few perimeter shots together, then things may have changed.

But they didn't and Florida won.

Florida is just the better team. Their starting 5 all can score. They are balanced. On a night when Horford and Noah are struggling, Brewer comes up big. You have to account for each of their starting 5. Humphrey wasn't on, but UK did as good of a job covering him as one could expect.

When UF really needed a basket, they got one.

On the other hand, UK only has 3 kids they can count on that will score in their starting 5. Some people wonder why UK needs Jai Lucas when they have Jasper. Simple, Jasper is more of a liability on offense, scoring wise, than Rondo was. You do not need to guard him.

Some will play the "iffin' game with the last possession. Timeout or not? All I do know is that Ramel Bradley didn't make one single pass in UK's last 8 possessions. Hard to believe but true.

But, I didn't understnad why OTS didn't have Morris on the floor over the last 4-5 minutes of the first half. I thought he had two fouls. He only had one. UK was playing good defense but the well went dry and on two possessions they were throwing the ball to Sheray in the post. That would have been a good time for Morris to be inserted to do battle without Horford and Noah on the floor.

Fun night, great atmosphere, but the Cats blew a golden opportunity...and unfortunately the road doesn't get any easier.

Sidenote, that is UF's 5th straight win over UK. No program has ever beaten UK 6 straight times. And yep, UK ends the season in Gainesville.

No. 1 Florida withstands Kentucky's furious final-minute rally

 

"We're just trying to build and be like Kentucky is," Gators coach Billy Donovan said. "Sometimes maybe people have harsh expectations, and that's unfair. We're trying to build a program, build a tradition."

UK DID recruit Brewer... maybe not as hard as Florida but I'm almost 100% sure there was an offer.

 

Florida is VERY good, you can't shoot like that from the 3 or line and expect to win. Sure... Florida didn't play their best game and they had foul trouble... but the encouraging thing is that we still COULD have won.

 

I wouldn't say Tubby outcoached Billly D, but anyone who thinks BD is a better XO's guy is CRAZY!!! Tubby decided to trap the high ball screen and completely took that away.

 

I HATE moral victories more than anything in the world but I can't be too upset over this. Lost by 3 and missed ridiculous amounts of open looks. I open the team builds off this loss and comes ready to play at UT.

I was at work trying to watch the game... On break actually... I spent about 15 more minutes in break than I was supposed to... They almost logged me out. :lol:

 

But I caught most of the 2nd half except the last minute or so... I kept thinking they were going to get hot... Every time I saw a 3 go up I thought it was the one that started the rally... Especially when Noah sat with foul trouble.. I just KNEW that it was going in Kentucky's favor from then on.

 

It didn't happen that way... Tough way to lose.

Should be an exciting SEC tourney.
