Do you think he took the new teaching job without talking to the Beechwood Admin first? I would imagine he explained his reasoning to them and he had their blessing before accepting the new position. If not, then there is a discussion to be had.

Volker will convincingly win a state title at Beechwood this fall, and shortly after, Beechwood will hire a new coach as Volker takes a coaching job in Ohio, as he has been open about wanting to do all along, especially if a GCL job opens and he is able to get it. JMO.

It is hard to imagine anything but this, talking to the Beechwood powers that be first.

For what its worth I hear that Kings Head Coach is in the mix to be come the principal at kings as soon as this June. So maybe he knows that and Kings is an option for him if that does indeed happen.

Well, if the Kings job were to open this summer I would expect Beechwood to open too.  Does anyone disagree with that thinking?

Does this push Beechwood to make a change in its teaching pay scale to have them more competitive with other districts in KY?

I'm not sure the competition with other KY school districts is the problem.  Beechwood Independent is already above the average when it comes to median teacher salary.  The issue is competing with the CPS teacher pay scale system, which I don't think is feasible for a lot of KY schools.

No one will match CPS, but Kings is not CPS either, but most of the Ohio pay is better. Boone and Kenton pay more than Beechwood. 

King’s already hired a new principal and it was not the football coach.. I believe it was an assistant from Anderson. 

Beechwood cannot start practice until later in the afternoon due to the assistant coaches not working in the district. It sounds like he was having to be away from his kids during the week and not being able to see them because he does not get home until after they are asleep, which I imagine would be difficult to concentrate on football knowing you are basically an absent father. This move would at least allow him the chance to see them in the morning and still give plenty of time to get down to Ft. Mitchell, which would allow him to be fully present and concentrate on football while at football. 

I do know Beechwood offered his wife a position last year, but she wasn’t able to take it due to not having FMLA and being pregnant and it was over a 45k pay cut plus she would have lost Ohio retirement. 

Coach Gray isn’t in the building and no one seems to have an issue with that…

Life as a coach is definitely hard, as one of the hardest things is definitely not seeing your family as much as you like. With that said, I am failing to see how teaching at Kings will give him more family time? Maybe during the off season, possibly? Doesn't Kings start their school day earlier than Beechwood though? So still won't be gaining much more if any time in the mornings, especially during the season. Now the pay raise is definitely a thing, as Beechwood I believe is one of the lowest paying school districts in NKY. So the financial part of things definitely will be a help to the family. 

You mention coach Gray at the end. Coach Gray isn't a teacher is he? So when they hired coach Gray, they knew when they hired him he wouldn't be in the building. When they hired coach Volker, most likely they assumed he would be in the building when they hired him. Plus as mentioned this is just a situation you don't really see. Where a head coach is already in the building, but then chooses to go teach elsewhere. So that definitely makes this a unique situation. Coupled that with the pretty well known aspect everywhere that coach Volker would like to get back to coaching in Ohio on day, that is what makes this move interesting.

As I said, I see little to no impact for this season. As I will be surprised if Beechwood doesn't win state title #19 this year. However, after this season is over, I do think this move makes things interesting, and why it is being talked about.
