I think the line of scrimmage also won’t be as big of a challenge as people think it will be. They most likely will have 5 senior starters on the Offensive Line and these guys have played with each other for 4 years, they know the system, and have built trust and chemistry with each other. It might take longer than last year to get the ball rolling because it will be some of the guys first time starting at the varsity level, but I think towards the middle of the season this unit will start putting together some strong performances and help bring #19 back to Fort Mitchell.

Line them up for us. Who do you see as the starting offensive line?

I put some names in my Jan. 19 post. Who goes where and who am I missing?

Brockett and Shaw obviously are going to come back as year 2 starters so 2 Seniors there. Morris is a candidate for a starting spot as well, I’m assuming he would play center. And I also heard Landry Queen is dealing with an injury that could sideline him for awhile so that shakes things up. I also think Bystry and Wulfeck gotta be in the mix there, one of them or both I see taking a starting spot. Wulfeck is a bit taller so I’d assume he would be a tackle. But the question becomes you got 3 Senior tackles someone has to get moved inside and I am guessing that someone would be Shaw because he is the shortest out of the 3 and would make the most sense cause he’s a strong lineman that could be used in the interior. That would then slot Bystry at the other guard spot but who knows maybe when Landry comes back he takes that spot? So left to right I have Brockett, Bystry, Morris, Shaw, Wulfeck this looks like an experienced offensive line with a lot of potential. You got anchors in the interior and you got length on both of the tackles.

Sounds like the Tigers should have a strong running game with that OL group! Queen should have a monster year. Can't wait til August!

When you count the two scrimmages that is an extremely tough first six "games" for the Tigers, wow!

Have they ever played Indian Hill before?

No, this will be the first time.

Love the early season play, too bad they still have to play so many district games, it’s totally wrong what KHSAA does to teams like this vs. others, BUT let’s Go!  Just play on what’s handed to you and let’s go!

With the addition of Indian Hill to the schedule, and the question about if this was the first time the 2 schools have played one another, here are a few fun facts about Beechwood and playing teams from Ohio:

In the last 50 years, Beechwood has played 29 games against teams from Ohio, with an overall record of 24-5.

2-0 vs Cincinnati Country Day (1976,77)

1-0 vs Summit Country Day (1978)

1-1 vs North College Hill (1981,82)

1-0 vs C.A.P.E. (1984)

2-0 vs Madeira (1985,86)

2-0 vs Reading (1987,88)

1-0 vs Archbishop Carroll (1988)

2-0 vs Mason (1989,90)

2-0 vs Taylor (1993,94)

1-0 vs Wyoming (1997)

1-0 vs Purcell Marian (1997)

2-0 vs Ironton (1998,2015)

1-0 vs Western Hills (1999)

1-0 vs Bishop Ready (2003)

1-0 vs Cin. Hills Christian Academy (2004)

1-0 vs Newark Catholic (2005)

0-2 vs Archbishop Alter (2005,06)

1-0 vs Lima Senior (2013)

0-1 vs Mt. Healthy (2014)

0-1 vs Taft (2019)

1-0 vs Archbishop McNicholas (2023)

Some notable games, the 1984 contest against C.A.P.E. was a huge win for the Beechwood program that was still looking for their first state championship. C.A.P.E. loaded with talent, including the great Carlos Snow, that played at OSU and was destined for the NFL, before knee injuries cut his career short, and future NFL players Vinnie Clark and David Pool. The game was never in doubt, as Beechwood rolled to a 33-14 victory on their way to an undefeated State Championship.

The 1997 win over Wyoming, played at Highlands in the Champions Bowl, was a big one, because it pitted the Tigers, against their former Head Coach, Bernie Barre, and a very good Cowboys squad, that featured future OSU and Cincinnati Bearcats Running Back, Richard Hall. Hall ended his career as one of Ohio’s all time leading rushers, but on this day, he scored very early in the game, from about 75 yards out, and never again threatened, as he finished under 100 yards for the game, as the Tigers controlled the game in a 21-7 victory.

Also in 1997, a very good Purcell Marian team, with 2 future NFL players, in Austin King and Mike Wright, that would end up losing in the D3 semi finals, to the eventual champions, St. Francis DeSales, came to Ft. Mitchell for a big game against the undefeated Tigers. It was a rainy night, and the grass field was somewhat of a quagmire, so Coach Mike Yeagle took his big TE, Joey List, who also played a little backup QB, and inserted him behind center, and proceeded to run QB sneak about 20 times behind the Tigers massive offensive line, and the Tigers dominated the Cavaliers by a score of 33-12, in route to an undefeated State Championship.

The 1998 game at Ironton was notable, for the fact that the game was suspended at halftime with Beechwood leading 21-20, the lights kept going out and eventually stayed out, so the game could not be completed. Ironton wanted to finish it the next day, Beechwood did not, so the game was awarded as a win for Beechwood. Ironton was itching for another shot at the Tigers, which they got in 2015, which was also a 35-19 for Beechwood, this time a full game in which the Red and White Tigers big play ability was too much for the much bigger, Black and Orange Tigers.

The 2014 Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, played at the University of Cincinnati’s, Sheakley Athletic Center, against the Mt. Healthy Owls, was an electric atmosphere, offensive shootout that saw the Owls hold off a late charge by the Tigers and pull out a 40-34 victory.

The Owls, led by their QB, and current NFL RB, David Montgomery, jumped out to a 28-0 lead, before the Tigers started hitting them with some haymakers, with big play after big play, to climb all the way back to make it a 34-27 game, midway through the 4th quarter.

The Tigers had the ball in their own territory, with a chance to go down and tie the game, but the Owls had a young safety, by the name of Bryan Cook, the same Bryan Cook that just signed with the Bengals, who picked off a wheel route by the Tigers and returned it inside the 10 yard line. The Owls punched it in to go up 40-27, but the Tigers were able to hit on another big play to cut the lead to 40-34, with under a minute to go, but the onside kick was recovered by Mt. Healthy and ended the ballgame.

The matchup against Indian Hill, has potential to be another classic, as it will match up, two very good teams, each led by big time talents. Beechwood being led by their highly recruited superstar Tyler Fryman, as well as Emmett Queen and Nathan Pabst, and Indian Hill is led by their highly recruited superstar, QB/Athlete Devlan Daniel. Should be a great night in Ft. Mitchell!!

2 Power 4 players for the Tigers is impressive

This is very cool for Emmett. I believe the first P4 NKY QB commit since Tanner Morgan went to Minnesota out of Ryle a decade ago.

Building an offense around Queen/Tyler Fryman/Nathan Pabst would be killer at any level, let alone 2A.

Watching highlights of Queen and Fryman they are both outstanding high school football players and will make a big splash wherever they go in College.  Congrats to Queen.  He throws a beautiful ball.

Anderson will be the best team Beechwood sees. Just a scrimmage but it could get ugly fast.
