Frank Riherd steps away from KHSAA scoreboard to due to health

I spoke with an employee at the KHSAA who definitely qualifies as someone directly in the know about what's going on with the Scoreboard, and they told me that "all of the information that we have currently [on the Scoreboard] will be transported to the new one [Arbiter]." They also said that "this is extremely precious to him [Commissioner Tackett] to have all of the data transferred over and have a website which will go more in depth than the current scoreboard."

I'm hopeful.

Another thing I'd add is that it sounds like well before Frank Riherd's retirement announcement in January, the KHSAA had already been anticipating that his retirement from operating the Scoreboard was coming down the pike sooner rather than later. They didn't have an exact timeline for his retirement, and they definitely weren't anticipating the reason it happened, but I think the fact that the KHSAA started migrating things over to Arbiter a year and a half ago was the beginning of their restructuring and adjustment process for the future of the Scoreboard.

    Just a thought here, with all that Mr. Riherds has done for the KHSAA and high school sports, it would be nice to see him inducted into the KHSAA Hall of Fame, so that he could receive the due recogni

    When someone and their work is taken for granted, for so long, and you never have a complaint or see a problem, it reveals exactly how special and elite their work has been. That would certainly apply

    Awful news all around. Horrible to hear that Frank has ALS, I can’t imagine the difficulty for him and his family. The scoreboard has been a true jewel for the state, an invaluable resource. Sadly, I

Wasn’t today when it was supposed to go in to effect I clicked on the link on the KHSAA site but I didn’t see anything.

That's all I can get to is arbiterlive but it's nothing like the scoreboard. It has schedules and scores and rosters when they post them. You have to search each team individually to get the schedules and not all of them are up all the way up yet. I hope khsaa can get something going better than arbiter live.

If you’ve had a disclaimer atop the current scoreboard since January saying it was shutting down June 30 and you’ve said at BOC meetings and on social media that there will be a replacement, then you probably should have a replacement or at least a statement saying when the next scoreboard will be available.

I can only imagine the cluster that this will be come RPI team with realtime results.

I continue to hope against hope that this particular Arbiter look is not what they're relying on.

One of my favorite things about Arbiter? You go into a team's schedule, click on their opponent.  Do you get taken to said opponent's page? Don't be silly! It takes you to a page showing the Game Details and the location of the game (admittedly, that part I like).  But surely you can then click on the opponent from there? No sir!

The schedules are not accurate well not all of them anyway and it doesn’t look clean if that’s the best they can do than we’re in trouble.

So as just a fan and not any of the categories listed how does one log into Arbiter?

This will certainly be a disaster with the KHSAA running it. We didn't realize how good we had it with Frank running it.

Could see them going to MaxPreps rankings just to avoid trying to keep up with RPI because I have zero faith they’ll figure it out even though they have it all.

Or they could do something crazy since RPI only matters in football is to eliminate it and go back to the old system where East & West rotates hosting the semi-finals lol.

Great question. I ran into our school's new stats guy last night at the gas station and he told me he still hasn't heard boo from the KHSAA as far as instructions on how to use Arbiter or enter stats on the site for the upcoming football season.

Decided to try registering myself and seeing what things looked like on there and as someone who isn't a coach, official, or parent. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to register either. These are the options you have for your categories when registering. I figured families/students might be some sort of general "fan" view of the site but then after clicking that it immediately started asking questions about student guardianship, so that's evidently not the answer.

If this is supposed to be something that's "extremely precious" to Commissioner Tackett and this is the most capable Tackett is at handling that "extremely precious" thing, then I think the KHSAA's head honcho is either grossly unqualified to do his job or grossly past his capable prime. Time for him to hang it up.

You know Tackett is spewing nonsense anytime he’s talking. He refuses to go away.

He sent this out this morning. Gone are the days of Oklahoma and board drills.

The following contact drills, if a part of workouts and practice, should be totally ELIMINATED:

  1. Any drill that promotes one-on-one tests of strength within an artificially confined area that does not permit the defensive player to angle their approach, shed the blocker, or take other evasive action;
  2. Any Bull Rush when both the rusher and the blocker are aligned more than four yards apart in an effort to reduce closing speeds and unnecessary helmet contact;
  3. Any full-speed head-on blocking or tackling drills in which the players line up more than four yards apart; and
  4. Drills such as, but not limited to, Bull in the Ring/King of the Circle, Oklahoma Drill, Offensive Line/Defensive Line In-Line Run Blocking/Board-Drill, where there is a vertical push with the defensive player making no attempt to evade the block.

Are we moving to two hand touch next?
